Volcano

The Chilean volcano “Villarrica” spews ash and lava at the same time, which is a very uncommon

Dino fact

For the first time, we have discovered the weight of a Dino.

Sophie the

stegosaurus weighs

an astounding 1.6

tons. Go and see

for yourself at the

natural history

museum.

Robots, our future companions?

Could we, in the future have our own “domestic” robots?

In a home, robots can come in handy: breakfast in bed, water the flowers, or babysit the

baby… Robots can be used for anything.

Technologies evolve so quickly that some think that in less than 50 years, every house

will be with one. They can have different forms, humanoid or not…

Some say that if we use robots to do our daily tasks, we will have more free time, but

they can also be used as teachers, doctors…

Today, robots are being used in many situations - companions, in factories; but they can also be used in hospitals, or as toys… But at the moment they are still very rare. Only rich people can afford them - they can cost around £5m.

30hours ON THE TRACKS!

 cont… front page

The situation was becoming very dangerous. Poor Ruby got electrocuted but continued her race. The Fitz’s mom warned the staff of the railways but Ruby was scared and no one could stop her.

I was very sad for Fitz and his dog. It was late and we could not wait for the next day to continue the research. Poor Ruby had to spend the night alone in the cold far from her home and Fitz.

Tuesday, March 3rd, still no Ruby in the morning. I went to school. I looked forward to 3:30 p.m. for news. Unfortunately, Ruby had still not been found.

At 4 pm, Fitz phone call informs me that the train passengers had seen Ruby alive. We are happy. The staff of the railways is warned. We joined them quickly. They put their yellow jackets and helmets on and took a leash and food to attract Ruby towards them. They climbed over the gates that separated us from the train tracks. We watched several trains pass and Ruby suddenly appeared, trembling. She was frightened by the men in yellow jackets. The men circled her and very quickly one of them grabbed her by the neck. Ruby was saved, and we were happy.

At nightfall, Fitz and Ruby were reunited. Ruby was going to have a good night with her master.

A big thanks you to the staff of the railways, without them we would not have been able to find Ruby.

Cooking Simnel Cake, an Easter classic

Wix Times 4

For the almond paste 250g/9oz caster sugar 250g/9oz ground almonds 2 free-range eggs, beaten 1 tsp almond essence For the cake 175g/6oz butter or

margarine 175g/6oz soft brown sugar 3 free-range eggs, beaten 175g/6oz plain flour Pinch salt ½ tsp ground mixed spice

(optional) 350g/12oz mixed raisins,

currants and sultanas 55g/2oz chopped mixed peel ½ lemon, grated zest only 1-2 tbsp apricot jam 1 free-range egg, beaten for

glazing

For the almond paste, place the sugar and ground almonds in a bowl. Add enough beaten egg and mix to a fairly soft consistency.

Add the almond essence and knead for one minute until the paste is smooth and pliable.

Roll out a third of the almond paste to make a circle 18cm/7in in diameter and reserve the remainder for the cake topping.

Preheat oven to 140C/275F/Gas 1. Grease and line a 18cm/7in cake tin. For the cake, cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Gradually beat in the eggs until well incorporated and then sift in the flour, salt and mixed spice (if using) a little at a time. Finally, add the mixed dried fruit, peel and grated lemon zest and stir into the mixture. Put half the mixture into a greased and lined 18cm/7in cake tin. Smooth the top and cover with the circle of almond paste. Add the rest of the cake mixture and smooth the top leaving a slight dip in the centre to allow for the cake to rise. Bake in the preheated oven for 1¾ hours. Test by inserting a skewer in the middle - if it comes out clean, it is ready. Once baked, remove from the oven and set aside to cool on a wire rack.

Brush the top of the cooled cake with the apricot jam. Divide the remainder of the almond paste in half; roll out a circle to cover the top of the cake with one half and form 11 small balls with the other half.

Place the circle of paste on the jam glaze and set the balls round the edge. Brush the cake topping with a little beaten egg.

Preheat the grill to high. Place the cake onto a baking tray and grill for 1-2 minutes, or until the top of the marzipan begins to brown. Alternatively, lightly heat the cake topping using a cook's blow torch, until the marzipan is golden-brown.

Problems with Paloma Dear Paloma I like this girl but I don’t know if she likes me back and I made a total fool of myself in front of her. Now she knows that I like her and never talks to me anymore. What do I do? Confused Dear Confused This girl obviously is not talking to you because she is shy. What you should do is go up to her and ask her if she likes you and if she says no, well at least you tried and if she dos not like you then she is not worth it.

Dear Paloma This boy likes me but I do not like him and he sent me a letter saying that he likes me. How do I tell him that I don’t like him without hurting his feelings? Troubled Dear Troubled Be honest with him! Tell him that you don’t like him but say it in a nice way so then he won’t be upset. Dear Paloma My best friend likes this boy but I just found out that he has another girlfriend. So I told her this but she doesn’t believe me. Why doesn’t she believe me and how do I tell her the truth? Hopeless Dear Hopeless She believes you but she doesn’t want to because he is her first boyfriend and she doesn’t want to lose him, so tell her this: Look if you want a boyfriend that is cheating on you OK, but know that I am your best friend and I would never lie to you like he would! If you have a problem, why not get in touch with Paloma at [email protected]

Why do we have Easter eggs

and the Easter bunny ?

What is Easter ?

Easter is a Christian celebration for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It says that Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday and came back to life three days later. There are some different traditions over the world.

Why do we have Easter eggs ?

We usually have chocolate eggs at Easter. However, originally, eating eggs was not allowed by the church in the week leading up to Easter (Holy week) So any eggs laid that week were saved and decorated to make them ‘Holy Week eggs’ then given to children as a gift. The Victorians adapted the tradition with some satin covered cardboard eggs filled with Easter gifts.

What’s the Easter Bunny then ?

The story of Easter is thought to have become common in the 19th century. It says that the Easter bunny lays, then decorates and after that hides the eggs because they are a symbol of a brand new life. He won’t do all the work alone though. In Switzerland the Easter eggs are delivered by a small cuckoo, and sometimes by a fox in some parts of Germany.

The Harry Potter Studio

As soon as we arrived we were taken to a hall with a video showing us how they made the 8 Harry Potter films. Then we were shown the great hall where the sorting hat decides which house you go in. After that we walked to the dormitories and the Quidditch hall. It was very well presented and explained so we all had great fun. There was also the snake who plays Nagini. He is Voldemorts pet and he is also a Horcrux. Thenwe had to find crest stamps in the whole Studioand the last one was next to the room-sized model of Hogwarts the Quidditch field and Hagrids House. To discover so much about the making of the Harry Potter films was very eye-opening and surprising. The best part was when the Dementors came walking after us and tried to eat us

It was

ABSO-FLIPPING-LUTELY extraordinary.

In all I had one of the most magical moments of my life.

Caméraman  : Moi aussi, j’ai t r a v a i l l é s u r d i f f é r e n t s spectacles, principalement avec
