Clear Passage Physical Therapy is the national headquarters and training center for the Wurn Technique®. The Wurn Technique® is a unique hands-on physical therapy protocol, developed over 20+ years of extensive study and clinical research by Belinda Wurn, PT and Larry Wurn, LMT. It was initially created to decrease pain and increase function for Belinda, when adhesions from surgery and radiation therapy left her unable to work and in chronic, debilitating pain. The Wurn Technique® is designed to treat the adhesions that cause severe or longstanding pain, poor body function, bowel obstructions, and female infertility. It has helped thousands of men, women, and children achieve their goals and reclaim their lives. It can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other treatment options.

Who We Are


Summa cum laude physical therapist Belinda Wurn was surprised to develop cervical cancer – but hopeful, because a medical treatment existed. After pelvic surgery and radiation therapy, physicians pronounced her “cured.” But unprepared as she was for the cancer, she was shocked to be racked with constant debilitating pain, unable to work or move without pain, just a year after the surgery to save her life.

Her doctors said “we cured your cancer; there is nothing we can do about adhesions; they form naturally after surgery. You’ll have to live with the pain.” Belinda found these words unacceptable. She knew there had to be something to relieve her chronic pain.

With her husband, massage therapist Larry Wurn, Belinda embarked on a 20+ year journey to develop and test a non-surgical “hands-on” physical therapy to relieve adhesion pain. Little did they realize that the therapy they developed to return Belinda to a pain-free life (Wurn Technique®) would be found to open totally blocked fallopian tubes, improve natural and IVF fertility, and to decrease pelvic, menstrual, endometriosis and intercourse pain – in published studies. Results showing significant improvements in all of these conditions have been published in some of the most respected journals in medicine.

Born from Belinda’s pain and dysfunction, the lifetime adventure led to an intense study of adhesions – tiny glue-like strands that form like nylon ropes wherever the body heals from surgery, injury, or infection. What We Do

Non-Surgical Treatment — The Wurn Technique®The focus of the Wurn Technique ® is to find adhered tissues and structures wherever they exist in the body. Adhesive cross-links act like the thousand tiny fibers of a nylon rope. When they bind together, they can create persistent pain or dysfunction, gluing together structures within the body.

While a surgeon might cut or burn the adhered tissues, this therapy uses a different mechanism. The focus is to detach the chemical bonds that attach the tiny cross-links to each other. This manual physical therapy uses more than 200 specific manual techniques to treat patients, developed over the last 20 years. Studies about the effectiveness of the therapy have recently appeared in highly respected medical journals.

(November 30, 2011)− Physical therapist Belinda Wurn studies before and after x-rays of a patient who came to a Clear Passage clinic after being diagnosed by her physician with two severely blocked fallopian tubes.Three years after publication of our original studies, the therapy continues to produce good results.

A manual physical therapy protocol (Wurn Technique®) continues to show good results for women diagnosed infertile due to adhesions or blocked fallopian tubes, according to authors of a recent study. The therapy, considered innovative because it requires neither surgery nor drugs, focuses on decreasing the scars and adhesions that contribute to female infertility, and block fallopian tubes. “Three years after publication of our original studies, the therapy continues to produce good results. Women diagnosed infertile are able to conceive naturally, without the physical risks and financial stress associated with fertility drugs and surgeries,” said study author, physical therapist Belinda Wurn.

“Physicians are paying more attention after the work received coverage in some major medical journals,” she said.

In the initial study, the patent-pending therapy (Wurn Technique®) opened fallopian tubes in most of the women with totally blocked tubes, and most of those became pregnant naturally. A scientific examination of the therapy, performed at Clear Passage Physical Therapy® clinics, was published in Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, and reviewed in Contemporary Ob/Gyn. The authors hope to begin a larger, controlled study later this year. (June 29, 2011)− Theresa Erickson will examine the Wurn Technique, a hands-on fertility treatment, during this live broadcast of Fertility Talk: Your Guide to Building Your Family (formerly The Surrogacy Lawyer Radio Show). The therapy has successfully treated several types of female infertility, and has been cited for its success in prestigious medical journals. Two decades ago, physical therapist Belinda Wurn and her husband Larry Wurn were newlywed, happy and looking forward to their future together. Their story took an unexpected turn however when Belinda was diagnosed with cervical cancer. After surgery and intense radiation therapy, Belinda was cured of her cancer, but left with debilitating pelvic pain. The young couple set out to find a treatment for Belinda’s pain, but found that traditional medicine did not hold the answer.

They learned that Belinda had developed adhesions, tiny bands of internal scar tissue from the surgery. Her pelvis was completely bound by these adhesions. Physicians said their only option was more surgery – this time to cut or burn the scarred tissues, but the procedure itself would create more adhesions.

They began studying non-surgical methods to relieve Belinda of her pain. During years of US and international study of various hands-on physical therapy courses, they developed the Wurn Technique. Their therapy, designed to decrease adhesions (internal scars), has been shown to decrease or eliminate pain in most of their patients. It has brought natural pregnancies and births to hundreds of women who were diagnosed infertile by their physicians.

in all people, after trauma, surgery, infection or inflammation. The Wurns began their clinic, Clear Passage Physical Therapy, by treating complex pain patients; they were not prepared for the unexpected side effect it would produce.

Patients and physicians began reporting pregnancies in women who had previously been diagnosed infertile, after treatment by the Wurns. The therapist’s first thought was this was an odd coincidence, but the Chief of Staff of the local hospital encouraged them to investigate further. Together with this physician, they published studies about the therapy’s ability to open blocked fallopian tubes, increase fertility, decrease intercourse pain, and increase sexual function in women.

They soon realized that they had developed a fertility treatment that was completely natural; in most cases, it replaced the need for

fertility drugs or surgery. Twenty years later, with over a thousand estimated babies born to their patients, the Wurns have clinics in various US locations. If you scrape your knee, have a fall, undergo surgery or develop an infection, adhesions form to surround the injured area. Published & Pending ResultsRecognizing the importance of scientific data to support clinical evidence, this therapy has been subjected to rigorous scientific scrutiny. The results of these studies and citations show success rates that rival more invasive (and often costlier) medical treatments, but without the associated risks or side effects. Natural fertility success rates: 71%• A study published June 2004 by Medscape General Medicine reported

a 71 percent natural pregnancy success rate within one year of receiving therapy, for women diagnosed infertile.

• Women in study had an average of five years of infertility prior to therapy.

Pre-IVF success rates: 67%• A study published June 2004 by MedScape General Medicine indicated

that women who received therapy prior to IVF transfer increased pregnancy rates to 67 percent versus 41 percent for IVF without therapy.

improvement (decrease) in pain levels during ovulation, pre-menstruation, menstruation, and intercourse pain for patients with endometriosis, as well as significant improvement in all six areas of sexual function (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and )pain).

Natural pregnancy after 5 years of infertility and four failed IVFs

Rachael discovered that both of her fallopian tubes were blocked from scarring and adhesions, which caused five years of infertility. She underwent four IVF procedures, but each one failed.
