Tumbling in the midst of a hot summers night i come across a horrific sign “Closed for Renova-

tions”, what the hell?. Has the only sacred ground fallen to the demise of the monopoly of congolmer-ates that is upstairs?. Why has the domain of ex-pressive revelation of the subculture it represented finally fallen to the almighty dollar? Is it the evolou-tion of the industry and demand of logistics of the fallen punk rock scene in the hammer? Or has a new force taken the reigns and given it hell, bringing in some new newly needed sound?.

Nilo Grabar of Symphony Of Sound is no stranger to making it work with the remnants

of a great venue. Mixing a line up of local talent with gigs, he hopes the regulars will see It’s the same old place minus the cramped up clutter. The underground has been under quarantine and scrubbed down of its years of many tours and promoters that passed through it’s doors.

“The scene has evolved into different genres of punk rock. Rising from the ashes and tat-tered dreams is a new pros-pect in hopes of bringing it back to perspective.”

“Asuring a solid format of keeping shows in the mix with a unity of genres and bookings to come.

A revamp of sound and space withmore viewing pleasure the underground

takes it from the seeds of oldschool to a shaved down clean cut. But one has to admit, wasn’t that what we loved about it?

is going to take an insight into

“WITHIN ZINE”

DEATH BEFOREDISHONOR

Death Before Dishonor has climbed up the ladder of the hardcore industry with awakening solid anthems, hard deep crunchy rhythms and chest beating drum rolls.

They debuted with the self produced “WARTIME” E.P /2002 and followed up with “TRUE TIL DEATH” on SPOOK CITY RE-CORDS. It wasn’t until a ruthless tour and reissue of TRUE TILL DEATH 2004 did BRIDGE NINE RECORDS gain interests of this rising force. Their first L.P for B9 “FRIENDS FAMILY FOREVER” 2005 was followed up with touring and making two 7 inch lim-ited releases “SPLIT/BLACK FRIDAY” and “BREAK THROUGH IT ALL”. The newly restructured D.B.D was given the opportu-nity to record with Boston’s legendary long time producer JIM SIEGEL(Blood for Blood,DropKick Murphys) for “COUNT ME IN”2007. Jim worked his years of expertise to refine “COUNTME IN” - by far one of the best L.Ps of the year. On tour with MAD-BALL/SICK OF IT ALL/WISDOM IN CHAINS “WITHIN” catches up with BRYAN HARRIS after the set to ask a few questions.

Well I started out in the 90’s with the Boston Scene but a lot of my favorite bands are New York so both.

What inspired you in your own life to turn to hardcore?

Well regular Jr High school life wasn’t what

I was into, i went to a hardcore show and felt at home. It was a place for me to release my aggres-sions that I had going on in my life and I felt like i fit in.

What kind of Motivation are you looking to give in this release?.

I just hope our lyrics help kids feel like there

are other people going through the same shit they are in every-day life. And musically we give music for kids to move to.If you could make a differ-ence, “would you try” or leave it up to them to figure out?

I think when someone figures out how to make

a difference in their own lives it makes them stronger. So I guess I would leave it up to themselves to figure it out.

“So do you think theres a general mis-conception of the HardCore scene to the

Most definitely there’s a real problem with the facist misconcieving what the hardcore scene is all about and misinterpeting what we’re all saying. There’s a lot of bands that they’re mistaking the meaning for no doubt about it.

“Personally” I would love to punch them all in the head but i don’t wanna go to jail!.”

If you were back pedaling the eschelon of Strategic Defence during the era preceding the Cold War, you might stumble across a tat-

tered dusty file labelled “Code Name After Math”. Then again maybe it’s nothing more than a good old grassy knoll theory ,with a cliff-hanger for a ending. Is the research into the global effects of ultra violet radiation from cosmic rays truly open to public inquiry?.Or has Washington’s top brass finally decide the files are no longer a concern to public safety or a topic of National Scurity ?. What if Dar

win had it right all along “in order for a species to survive it must adapt to it’s enviro-ment”. Is the “Iron Age” of modern civilization truly to blame for the disentegra-tion of natural cycles? Within the time frame of the end of the pacific conquest and the era of the iron curtain, sev-eral nations divide scientific research to a trial by error statis quo. Thus dawning the age of Thermo Nuclear Deto-nation casuing ionization of the atmossphere and strato-sphere.

Explosions above the Earth’s atmosphere can be captured by the Earth’s magnetic field, temporarily creating radiation belts. An explosive nuclear reaction takes place in less than a millisecond, during which time the bomb material is heated to over six million degrees Kelvin, greater than the temperature of our Sun’s pho-tosphere. This leads to a unique three – stage release of energy. Changes in trace stratospheric gases can result for detonations in the atmosphere if the fireball rises into the stratosphere. In this case, the high temperatures of the fireball destroy ozone and create various oxides of nitrogen. For large numbers (hundreds or thou-sands) of high yield detonations, these changes can exceed natural variations. Such depletion of ozone would increase solar ultraviolet reaching the Earth’s surface. Ionized particles are channeled to-wards the Earth’s poles, which is why we see the beautiful auroras

Page 14: Within punk zine issue 1

at the highest latitudesoften occuring at the northern hemispheres. Thus the pull of the earths magentic polarity draws the ionization towards the polar ice caps. Since atomic testing there has been 2,056 thermonuclear deto-nations of which 549 tests have been atmospheric over the course of 60 years. After the intial manhattan project the cold war tests seemed to gain more and prompt radiation which includes neutron radiation and gamma radiation released in the first few seconds of the detonation. These radiations are absorbed by the atmosphere, especially so with the larger bombs.A portion of the radiation is forced into the stratosphere, and is then distributed randomly by the upper atmosphere circulation. While its descent to earth seldom produces acute radiation poisoning, a number of radioactive elements created by a nuclear explosion are absorbed by living organisms and accumulate up the food chain, and thus inevitably concentrating in human food.Could this scenario be why so many live stock are tainted each year periodically by unknown diseases occuring from grazing patterns?. What does happen to polar regions when ionization of the atmosh-pere occurs? Was the military really doing cold war defense training in the polar caps or was it a study to trace the effects of a collapsed ozone shield due to ionization and build up of stratospehric gases? All in the name of Justice and Liberty shall we open Pandora’s Box and feel the wrath that lies within.

A portion of the radiation is forced into the stratosphere, and is then distributed randomly by the upper atmosphere circulation.

“Could this scenario be why so many live stock are tainted each year periodically by unknown dis-eases?.”

Have Social Issues that need to be answered?, Or just generally pissed off and need someone to listen?.

[email protected] ListI was standing in line the other day at my bank waiting patiently for the only two tellers to tell there life stories. When a elderly wom-en decided to shat herself in her diapers. Now this i can understand for the natural aging process but “lady did you have blast if off a puff of bad perfume smelling like pot pourri!”.

“CLEAN UP IN AISLE THREE”They dont call them depends for nothing , Depends if you smell it or not. I can honestly say i never smelt a “Daisy Log”.

Just wanted to say the cops are campaiging the wrong agenda. Maybe they should check into old people’s driving . Ever hear of a fucking Turn Signal?.“HONK IF YOUR HORNY”That “Depends” if there busy or not, if you see a smile you knowbest not to follow.

Dear ListI was wondering if there’s any “CABBIE” working in this city that really knows how to drive?.

“HOLD ON TOO ERR PETE SHES HEADIN FOR THE RHUBARB”The problem isn’t the lack of skills,it’s just the knowledge of the applicable laws that vary. Point A to Point B is worth less than the average minimum wage, so get-ting there is nothing short of a horse race.Just depends on if you have the winning odds ,if not you’re shit out of luck.

Just felt like saying this is to the guy that feeds the squirrels in Gage Park peanuts, “keep you fuckin nuts to your self!.

Dear ListI just felt like saying it takes more of a man to become a “wanna be” dad than just simply trying to act like you have a set of balls, thanks for being out of line.

“IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO”The problem is it’s hard for any par-ent that’s involved in a separation to stay amicable with each other. Communication is the key and is best left to the two biological parents to communicate with each other on the child’s interest. Move on in life and acknowledge the fact that’s it’s not a one way street.

AHH YOU KNOW IT GOES IN CYCLES JUST LIKE IT DID IN THE SEVENTIES AND EIGHTIES AND NOWYOU KNOW IT”S ALWYAS EVOLVING AND RESURGING AND IT”S GREAT THAT WAY A LOT OF BANDS PREACH IT AND HOLD IT TIGHT AND IT”S GOOD

"IT"S JUST LIKE GOING TO CHURCH, YOU KNOW IT AL-READY BUT IT"S REASSURING TO HEAR IT AND BE PART OF A WHOLE"

IT”S FUKED UP I CAN”T BELIEVE THIS DAY AND AGE THERE”S SO MUCH INTOLERANCE. IT”S MIND BOGGLING ESPECIALLY OVER IN EUROPE TO SEE YOUR STERO TYPI-CAL NAZI, SHOW-ING UP AT THE SHOWS. IT SEEMS LIKE IT’S A MALE WHITE DOMI-NANCE THING BUT IT’S NOT, WE NEED TO DO MORE TO STOP IT. WE’RE SEE-ING A LOT MORE EQUALITY AT THE SHOW EVERY SHOW EVERY RACE BOTH GENDERS IT:S THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!.
