The BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching and Performance is a four year honours degree programme that provides aspiring coaches from a varietyof sporting backgrounds with an advanced coach education. The programme combines the disciplines of coaching science and sportsscience, applying theory to practice in different coaching environments. A key feature of the programme is the integration of NationalGoverning Body of Sport coaching awards with students progressing through the coach development pathway.

Sports Scholarships Sports scholarships are made available to selected suitablecandidates. The WIT Sports Scholarship scheme offers a range ofsupport services to successful students including financial,academic and sports science support.www.wit.ie/sportscholarships
Additional Points Additional points (typically 20-50) may be added to CAO points foroutstanding sporting achievements. To be considered for additionalpoints, any student who lists WD186 as a preference on their CAOapplication form by February 1st will automatically receive aseparate form from WIT.

A World of Future OptionsIt is envisaged that students will progress to further study in SportsCoaching, Sports Science, Sports Performance and Strength andConditioning. Students will also have the knowledge and skillsnecessary to undertake advanced coaching awards to internationalstandards in their specialist sports in the years following graduation.
Entry RequirementsLeaving Certificate requirements:
Number of subjects at grade D or better: 6Number of subjects at higher grade C or better: 2English/Irish: OD3/HD3Mathematics: OD3/HD3
Other requirements:
• Although a science subject is not required for entry, thisprogramme has a strong science component
• Garda vetting is a requirement for elements of this programmeand some candidates may be deemed unsuitable to progress intothe internship year
• The fees associated with undertaking the National GoverningBody of Sport coaching awards must be met by students

2. Sports ScienceThese modules provide students with the knowledge to understand the scientific basis of sports performance and the practical skills toundertake coaching-relevant assessments.
• The programme is designed specifically to develop coaching skills, abilities and perspectives to enable the coach pursue career pathways incoaching and related specialisms
• During the third year of the programme students will undertake a year-long coaching internship. They will be placed in medium to highperformance coaching environments and will be mentored by experienced coaches
• The sports-specific education is delivered via the National Governing Body of Sport coaching awards. Academic credit will be given forcompletion of these awards in conjunction with the development of core coaching competencies
• Sports science foundation modules are a key component of years 1 and 2 while in year 4, students study the science of elite performance inspecific sports
