Project Background & Requirements
• One of largest retailers in the world wanted to implement a cold chain solution, from transportation, to in-store food storage.
• Project scope included the distribution center, food transportation trucks, and in-store refrigerators.
• The retailer needed to have a long-range and low power solution to get temperature information.
• The retailer needed to have a centralized platform to manage end-to-end information.
Challenges
• Edge Solution: Advantech implemented a LoRa wireless communication solution which can penetrate thick walled refrigerators, and handheld devices to acquire temperature information from transportation trucks.
• Cloud Solution: WISE-PaaS has a dashboard creation tool which helps to quickly build a cold chain dashboard for the retailer. In addition, Advantech offered a full cold chain SaaS solution which met the retailer’s need.

• Smart parking solution vendor would like to reduce maintenance costs and expand their market to South East Asia.
• The vendor also wanted to implement alarm notifications via the cloud.• They would like to focus on their core business in developing parking facilities and parking SaaS
applications.
• Lack of engineering resources to develop remote monitoring system and alarm notification tools.
• Lack of engineering resources to integrate edge computers with a cloud platform, which is not really their core business.
Challenges
• Edge Solution: WISE-Agent is embedded into EIS (Edge Intelligent Server) so the solution vendor can connect to WISE-Agent with e-tags and easily incorporate parking gates. WISE-PaaS/DeviceOn provides cloud messages (Line, Wechat, and SMS), KVM, and remote control functions to save extra effort. Service people can then remotely diagnose issues in advance and save on wasted travelling costs.
• Cloud Solution: WISE-PaaS/EnSaaS helped the vendor focus on its own parking management solution, such as the database, IoT hubs, dashboards etc, instead of the cloud infrastructure.

Project Background & Requirements • The over 50-year old steel tube production line was still not fully controlled by electronic
components.• The productivity was unstable due to equipment effectiveness.• Considering the large machines on the manufacturing site, only wireless communication was
implementable.
• Most specialized knowledge and experience was in the hands of senior technicians and was not easy to pass on.
• There was inadequate immediacy and representativeness of data from on-site equipment due to parameters being controlled and forms filling-out manually.
• Wireless communication was interfered with due to electromagnetic waves generated by large motors and reflected by the large amount metal in factory.
Challenges
•Edge Solution: Stations were connected with PLC and the edge intelligence server (EIS-D110) with built-in WISE-PaaS/DeviceOn and WebAccess/SCADA software to collect the manufacturing data, then transferred to the cloud with Wi-Fi AP/Client (EKI-6332GN).
•Cloud Solution: Data was collected to the WISE-PaaS/EnSaaS IoT cloud platform, then analyzed and visualized with the WISE-PaaS/Dashboard shown situation room.

Project Background & Requirements • An automotive test center wanted to move from paper records to digital records in each
testing station.• The test center needed to remotely manage testing equipment and use video to visually see
the status of all vehicles.• A centralized dashboard was required to acquire the status each vehicle at each stage of the
operation.
• Difficult to manage various testing equipment in such large areas.• Different equipment had their own protocols so it was hard to get data from existing
equipment.
Challenges
•Edge Solution: EIS(Edge Intelligent Server) functions as a centralized gateway to work as a video surveillance server and acquires data from testing equipment. EIS utilizes 4G modules to send data to the cloud.
•Cloud Solution: Advantech Equipment-to-Intelligence SRP helped the automotive test center to create its own dashboard with management functions. The Equipment-to-Intelligence SRP not only controlled all equipment but also remotely displayed the information of all vehicles.

Project Background & Requirements • The project was for a wind turbine farm that was located in a remote area of China, where it
used up a lot of resources in sending maintenance staff to each site.• Each power plant needed to send real-time power generation status and have situation rooms
manage it.
• Power plants needed to connect key information from the wind turbines.• Power plants needed to have a cloud infrastructure to support highly distributed wind turbine
farms.
Challenges
•Edge Solution: EIS(Edge Intelligent Server) already has an embedded protocol converter to help connect key components in the wind turbines. EIS also has node-red pre-loaded to perform predictive maintenance.
•Cloud Solution: WISE-PaaS has a dashboard tool, WISE-PaaS/Dashboard, to help build a wind turbine management portal and also has a multi-tenancy feature for different parties to access specific information.

Project Background & Requirements • A test chamber manufacturer had its own rented site in Suzhou, China. The site had over 20
chambers. • Customers bring their own electronic equipment along to test under various temperature and
humidity conditions. • Customers wanted to pre-load testing “recipes” to reduce on-site key-in errors and print
recipes as bar-codes to attach on the boxes of their electronic equipment. When the customer scans the bar-code, the recipe can be downloaded from the cloud.
• Lack of technical capabilities in creating Equipment-to-Intelligence services.• Since this is a new business, internal staff had no idea what the future holds.
Challenges
•Edge Solution: HMI helped the chamber manufacturer to convert chamber protocols into Modbus and WebAccess/SCADA helped the customer connect with WISE-PaaS. HMI used an ADAM model and bar-code reader to provide additional information to the customer.
•Cloud Solution: An Advantech consultant provided other reference designs to guide the chamber manufacturer to get a better understanding of their business model and technical capabilities. Advantech SRP quickly built a SaaS solution as a prototype for further discussion.
