Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions
Emphasis Week: September 11th—18th
The annual offering for Virginia missions
was named for Alma Hunt (1909-
2008), a native Virginian who was
known worldwide for her missions
service and her unswerving dedication
to the cause of Christ. Alma served 26
years as WMU National Executive
Director and after retirement as a
national and international missions
advocate. Until her death at age 98, her sacrificial service was
an example for all Virginia Baptists to emulate. Thus, the
State Missions Offering of Virginia was named in her honor in
1998.
The Alma Hunt Offering is a statewide offering that provides
funding for all Women’s Missionary Union missions and
ministries in Virginia.

newsletters!!

NOTES from Leigh What a wonderful day of worship. I love a blend of contemporary music and time-tested hymns. They each have a beautiful and meaningful message. “O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come.” “You are God alone—you’re unchangeable, unshakeable, unstoppable.” “I will praise you with every breath for you have rescued me from certain death. This life I live I live in Him. O let His glory shine, while mine grows dim.” All of those lyrics speak directly to my heart and my life; it gives a good description of my faith. I need the spoken word as well and Pastor Ray did a great job yesterday. But, music; music and I share a language.
Thank you, God, for the gift of music!
The Sanctuary choir is working on some music for a special concert at Big Glade Square on September 18. We will join with several other choirs and musicians from the Town of Wise to create a wonderful community chorus. Our first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, August 31 at 8:30pm. Maybe you can’t sing with us all the time but would like to be a part of this inaugural event—please feel free to join us. I’ll be glad to share with you more information if you are interested!
Blessings, Leigh

YOUTH FAMILY NIGHT
Wow! We had a great turnout for the Youth Family
Night! It was a lot of fun. If you were unable to attend
last night, call or come by to see me to get caught up
on the activities planned for September and October.
I would like to encourage members of our
congregation—not just parents—to volunteer to help in
the youth ministry of our church. Please pray about
how you can be involved—chaperoning, meals, games,
or teaching. Contact me if you’re interested. I’m
praying for leaders and volunteers to step forward.
Working with our youth is truly a blessing—hope you
will feel led to get involved! Leigh
We would love to compile a list of addresses for all of
our college students! Please email the church office with
