Dear Friends in Christ,

Happy Fourth Sunday of Easter to everyone and congratulations to our First Communicants and their families. “Almighty ever-living God, lead us to a share in the joy of heaven, so

that the humble flock may reach where the brave Shepherd has gone before. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.”

How good it is to see our people shepherding the poor and feeding the hungry! Your generosity with our Lenten mission, exceeding our goal of $7,000.00, has benefited many people! When we allow the Holy Spirit to work through our community, we excel in our endeavors to witness the Gospel, and bring hope and healing to those in need. We live and act in the saving name of Jesus who is our Good Shepherd. In John’s Gospel this weekend we hear, “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice.” As Catholics, Christ calls us in a unique way to bring the Gospel to others, so that they may hear the Easter message and experience the joy of the resurrected Christ. As Christ is our shepherd, so we look to Him as an example for giving.

This entire theme of the “Good Shepherd” is the heart of our Catholic mission. Our Diocese lives out this compelling model in our mission to tirelessly serve the entire 50 counties in her commitment to social justice. In every service that stems from Christ’s love, we never shy from expressing the Good News of Christ. The vital Christ’s mission is not solely expressed within the work of our parish, but also expressed throughout our Diocese. This is the communal love which we share as part of our Catholicity in faith and mission.

The gift to the Diocesan Annual Appeal is a vital campaign, and a crucial component for support of diocesan-wide ministries and programs. These programs include the formation of priests and deacons, help for parishes with missions in remote areas of our state, Catholic education, and Catholic outreach programs in Eastern and Central Kentucky. It is very important that each of us should consciously, as part of our baptismal duty, live out the love of Christ which has been entrusted to us as Christians.

The success of our Lenten Mission Campaign is a testimonial of our faith to know Christ’s voice - to care for the poor and marginalized in our society. My challenge to every one of us is to consider expanding our campaign to our Diocesan Annual Appeal Campaign - to bring the fruitfulness of our faith to witness, our belief in the voice of our Good Shepherd. If each of us makes a conscious sacrifice of our daily surplus consumption for the poor, we can exponentially increase the amount of good in our generosity. Let’s orchestrate together a generous gift to the good cause which our Shepherd has given to us. Just imagine: if every one of us gave up the price of a can of soda or a coffee latte a day, the amount of excitement in Christ’s ministry that can reach beyond the boundaries of every broken heart and soul.

Please prayerfully consider this important campaign as a faith testimonial to our belief and honor that the great God, who has given us life, and gives it to the fullest in Christ.

Godspeed, Fr. Linh
