    Video 1

    Thoughts and Beliefs

How They Can Negatively Affect Our Singing...Without Our Knowing!

Hi, this is Michael Goodrich creator of the Wired For Singing Program. This is aprogram that is completely based on the latest neuroscience and brain research.

Now, this is a four-part mini-course that means four videos. This is part 1 ofvideo number 1.

In this course I am going to show you how to identify any limiting beliefs that you

may have about yourself as a singer or about your voice. I will show you how tochange those beliefs into supportive ones that support your vision and propel you

forward into the success that you deserve.

Did you know that you have a vocal thermostat? And depending on where thatsset, that is pretty much going to determine the success that you have with your

voice and how far you will be able to take your voice and your singing. I will showyou what that is and how to identity where it is set and how to recalibrate it high,

so you can reach all the heights of your vocal potential.

Now through a process I have developed called Focalization with an F, I amgoing to show you techniques that can dramatically accelerate your singing

progress without actually singing any more than you currently do.

And finally, I am going to teach you how to become your own favorite singer andnot from a place of ego but from an authentic place where your really singingfrom your true nature, your true self, your own unique you will shine through.

As I said, this is video 1 of a four-part series. There will be two parts to this video. The second part to video 1 should be just below this. I think thats where it is

going to be. So as soon as you finish watching video 1, click on video 2 andwatch that one. Video 2, meaning part 2 of video 1. I know it gets confusing. So

    this is video number 1.

In video number 1, we are going to talk about thoughtsand beliefs. What they

are, how they are formed, and how they affect us in a very negative way, oftentimes, and what we can do to change them?

So lets get started. Are thoughts and beliefs same thing? Well, not really. The

thought is just an idea that goes across the screen of your mind. How it becomesa belief is to become fortified with repetition and emotion, because belief is

nothing but two neurons in the brain that fire together and then they create acircuitry. As they say neurons that fire together wire together.

So lets take a thought just for example, like lets say you have a thought like, I

just dont like my voice, I dont like the sound of my voice something like that. You may not have that thought but for the sake of this discussion lets say thats

the thought that you have. I just dont like my voice. So if that thought just goes

across the screen of your mind and you are paying no attention to it or you evenmeet it with, oh! it is just my thought and of course I love my voice and youreally dont take it seriously, then it doesnt take route. The neurons are not really

firing and fortifying and becoming a strong belief.

But if that is something that is charged with emotion and you really feel that oh!God I just cant stand my voice. You hear it back on a recording, or youre

singing and its not going the way you want and you are really feeling ah! I justdont like my voice you really feel that and thats repeated over and over and

over again, then those neurons through that emotion and repetition will firetogether and they begin to create a wiring or a circuitry that begins to create a

belief. The more often that is done, what happens is that begins to sink down intoour non-conscious brain and when that happens thats when it starts to effect our

behavior and our results on a level below our conscious awareness, and thatswhy this is so important to know.

Lets see how that might affect us. Let us take for example that we have this

belief and its filed away in the non-conscious brain. So how might this affect us?Lets just take this for the sake of the argument that you believe that and you get

a call one day from a friend or somebody that can really benefit you and yoursinging career and lets say it is a great opportunity to do a singing gig, and keep

in mind now you have this belief, I cant stand the sound of my voice, I just dont

like my voice. So what might happen in that circumstance? You get the call, theoffer sounds like a great opportunity but all of a sudden that belief kicks in belowthe level of your conscious awareness and what happens? Because that belief

starts running the show just like a computer program that you dont know is inyour computer, you know, an interfering program all of a sudden you start

responding in ways that are being influenced by that belief, by that programming, and what happens is you begin to rationalize why you really shouldnt take this

    job.

And what is rationalizing? Rationalizing, is you begin to tell yourself rational liesas to why staying in your own comfort zone and not stepping out and doing this

gig, that could really benefit you, is really better. These rationalizations, or theserational lies that we tell ourselves keep us struck in our current non-conscious or

unconscious beliefs that are really running the show. So then what happens?Your behavior is affected by that belief because you dont take the job and your

results are affected by that belief because all the great magnificent things thatcould have come and unfolded as a result of you taking that job, which by the

way you are fully capable of doing, I have to mention that you have to know thatyou are fully capable of doing this job, thats why it was offered to you, you could

have been magnificent and all kind of things could have unfolded for you, butbecause of the belief operating below the level of your conscious awareness you

were programmed to go in a different direction.

So that belief influenced your behavior, which then influenced your results and

you didnt get all those wonderful benefits that you could have gotten. Thats howthis works.

So you have got some more work to do thats going to be covered in part 2 of thisfirst video. So you have a workbook to download. Go ahead, download the

workbook and then go to part 2 of this video and we are going to go over yourhome work and what you can do to begin to identify and change these limiting

beliefs that you may have, and it is so funny because so many of us have theseand often we dont even know we have them. But Im going to show you how to

get a little bit in touch with that.

So thanks for watching part 1 of video number 1 and now and go and watch part2 and dont forget to download the workbook. I will see you in just a minute.

    Video 1 Part 2

Welcome to part 2 of video number 1. Did you download the workbook? Okay,

good so you are ready to go. The first thing I want you to do is become aware ofyour thoughts. Youll come to notice what you are thinking with regards to your

voice. Do you have any negative thoughts? This is the technique called

mindfulness. So I just want you to begin to watch your thoughts. It is veryimportant that you watch those thoughts without judgment. Just with curiosity likea scientist would watch thoughts.

Lets say you have thought like thought like, I just dont like my own voice and

lets say you begin to go into that process. Now at first when we have the thoughtand a belief now that is operating below our level of conscious awareness and

we go into that we have to admit sometimes were just in it, sometimes we arelike ah! I cant stand my voice or Why is that always happening with my voice

whatever, we are just kind of in it, its like a program thats running and we reallydont to feel any awareness that there is a choice to feel any other way or to

believe another way. But as you become mindful and you start watching yourthought process, a really interesting thing happens, it is sort of like a camerathats zoomed in on something; thats when we are in it, I cant stand my voice orwhatever thoughts we might have thats when we are in it, thats when camera

zoomed in and focused very, very closely on that. As we begin to watch ourthoughts and become aware of them without judgment, we are going to get to the

point that what happens is very cool, what happens is it is almost like the camerapulls back with a wide angle and there is tremendous amount of expansion and

we feel that and we notice that all of a sudden we have moved out of being runby this program to being in an awareness of this program and we are watching

now our thought process and thought patterns. And this has probably happenedto you when you have kind of been in a thought and kind of pulled back and said,Wow, Im kind of doing that again, or I am thinking that again, wow! we all have

had that, but now as you begin to look at these thoughts these negative thoughtsabout your singing and about your voice, or you as a performer whatever, now asyou begin to watch these thoughts, you are going to feel that expansion and feelthe moment when all of a sudden, oh! I am no lon ger being run by this, I havemoved out of this place where I can begin to watch this thought process and sort

of see where it takes me, what road it is taking me down. And then we move intoa place of choice where we can decide, do I want to go down that road withthese thoughts, or do I want to make another choice. So I just want you, first ofall, to become aware of these thoughts without judgment, just curious, ah! wasnt

    that interesting?

Second, what I want you to do is I want you to pick one, two or three, if you donthave three just pick one and I want you to write it down, theres a place for you in

your workbook to do this, and lets just take the belief, I dont like my voice, Idont like the sound of my voice, so youd write that down in the work book. On

the opposite side I want you to write its exact opposite. Something that if it weretrue now would really get you emotionally charged and very excited. Beginningwith the phrase: I am so grateful for the fact that. So lets take that, one belief Ireally dont like sound of my voice, I just dont like my voice. The opposite of that

something like, I am so grateful for the fact that my voice is beautiful, I love thesound of it and singing is so much fun, or something like that. It ha s to resonate

with you; it has to be something that gets you emotionally charged. If it were true

you would be really, really excited. That would be just so cool. Then what I wantyou to do is I want you to take that new belief or the new truth as I like you to say,I want you to do to three things with it. The first one is I want you to write it down

on a 3 by 5 card and I want you to pay some attention to it two times during theday.

The first is in the morning when you are waking up and you are kind of groggy

and you are still kind of sleepy, because you are in an alpha brain wave state, and that is where you can really influence the non-conscious brain without the

    conscious brain editing it.

The second time is at night before you go to sleep. Before you fall asleep youtake the 3 by 5 card Im so grateful for the fact that you fill in the blank and

feel it and then off to sleep you go and then it goes to into your non-consciousbrain because we want to get this new thought fortified into a new belief that then

begins to influence your behavior and your results.

The second thing I want you to do as you are aware of old thought coming inyour mind and you are practicing mindfulness and you can pull back and you can

    5

watch it I want you to interrupt that thought so the neurons dont fire and I wantyou to go right to the new truth. So youre just about to say, ah! I just cant stand

, oh! I am so grateful for the fact that I love the sound of my voice and singingis so much fun!

And as silly as this sounds, you have to be kind of an actor like in a movie, youhave to really feel it, you have to really commit to that because by not going tothat old place you prevent those neurons from firing and that belief will actuallyatrophy and youl l fortify the new one.

Lastly, I want you to record the affirmation in your own voice and listen to it overand over and over again.

So, you have written it down, now you have done a pattern interrupt and instead

of going to the old place with the old wiring you are going to remember the newone and replace it with a new one and then you are going to record it listen to it

    often.

Just put it on a little bit of a loop. You can do it on a Mac in Garageband, or youcan download Audacity, which is a free program for a Mac or PC. Its an editing

environment and recording environment that is very, very easy to use. You canput it on a loop, put some classical music or Baroque music behind it and that will

get you into the alpha state.

Anyway, I hope this has served you. Do the work it really, really works. If youenjoyed this please leave your comments below. Please like it, share it, tweet it

whatever. Lets get the message out and really help people reach the heights of

their vocal potential. I hope you have enjoyed this, I hope it has served you. Lookfor video number 2 very soon. It is about your vocal thermostat. This is MichaelGoodrich. I will see you soon. Thanks for watching, bye bye.
