Our students and teachers are en- grossed in many academic activities dur- ing this first half of the year. They’ve worked tirelessly to ensure all students are receiving the best instruction possible. During this time of the year, many people have been impacted with economic difficulties, but one thing is certain; you can always give the gift of time. Time spent asking your child how his or her day was, in- quiring about what he or she learned, or taking a look at some of the work your child is engaged in are all great ways to stay involved in your child’s education. As we continue in this season of thankfulness and celebration, let’s focus on the important things in our lives – our children. We wish you the very best and hope that this holiday season is a time for you to reconnect with the people you love. Additionally, Primary North and South are continuing to improve our school climate by reducing bullying. This month we would like to share with you three types of bullying (physical, verbal and relational). We are speaking with our students about these types of behaviors through our skills streaming les- sons of the roles involved in any bullying situations and what we want students to do if they find them- selves in one of these roles. Roles in a bullying situation are as follows: The Bully - This person is purposely trying to harm another person. People exhibiting bullying behavior need to stop such behaviors and treat others with respect. Students who continue bullying others will find themselves away from people during many of our social activities such as lunch, recess, specials, time-out rooms, and parent contact. The Victim - This is the person who is being harmed (either physically or emotionally). Stu- dents who experience bullying are encouraged to tell an adult in our school so that we can stop this from happening again. The Bystander - This is the person (or persons) who observes the bullying behavior. Students who are in this role are asked to do the fol- lowing: 1) Tell the person who is bullying to stop. If they do not stop, students are asked to 2) Walk away from the situation and tell an adult so that they can stop the behavior and keep it from happening again. We want to stop bullying in our schools! Should this happen with your child at school, please contact school personnel. We want to know about this information and we will do whatever we can to make this situation better for your child! With best wishes and happy holidays, Sincerely, Mrs. Tonya Bray, PS Principal Miss Kathryn Klei, PN Principal

Dear Parents & Guardians:

May this season bring you as much hope,

joy, and excitement as the last few

months have brought us as your princi-

pals. Our students and teachers are en-

grossed in many academic activities dur-

ing this first half of the year. They’ve worked

tirelessly to ensure all students are receiving the

best instruction possible.

During this time of the year, many people have been

impacted with economic difficulties, but one thing is

certain; you can always give the gift of time. Time spent asking your child how his or her day was, in-

quiring about what he or she learned, or taking a

look at some of the work your child is engaged in

are all great ways to stay involved in your child’s

education.

As we continue in this season of thankfulness and

celebration, let’s focus on the important things in

our lives – our children. We wish you the very best

and hope that this holiday season is a time for you

to reconnect with the people you love.

Additionally, Primary North and South are continuing

to improve our school climate by reducing bullying.

This month we would like to share with you three

types of bullying (physical, verbal and relational).

We are speaking with our students about these

types of behaviors through our skills streaming les-

sons of the roles involved in any bullying situations

and what we want students to do if they find them-

selves in one of these roles.

Roles in a bullying situation are as follows:

The Bully - This person is purposely trying to harm another person. People exhibiting bullying

behavior need to stop such behaviors and treat

others with respect. Students who continue

bullying others will find themselves away from

people during many of our social activities such

as lunch, recess, specials, time-out rooms, and

parent contact.

The Victim - This is the person who is being harmed (either physically or emotionally). Stu-

dents who experience bullying are encouraged

to tell an adult in our school so that we can

stop this from happening again.

The Bystander - This is the person (or persons) who observes the bullying behavior. Students

who are in this role are asked to do the fol-

lowing: 1) Tell the person who is bullying to

stop. If they do not stop, students are asked

to 2) Walk away from the situation and tell an

adult so that they can stop the behavior and

keep it from happening again.

We want to stop bullying in our schools! Should

this happen with your child at school, please

contact school personnel. We want to know

about this information and we will do whatever

we can to make this situation better for your

child!

With best wishes and happy holidays,

Sincerely,

Mrs. Tonya Bray, PS Principal

Miss Kathryn Klei, PN Principal

Primary North Kindergartners have been very

busy this Fall! We have been working hard on Lit-

eracy skills: learning letters and letter sounds,

writing our names and discussing books that we

are reading together.

In Math we have learned how to play a lot of new

games including: Grab & Count, Roll and Record

and Build It. These games help us learn lots of

Math skills. We are also working in Math on

counting, making sets, patterns and writing num-

bers. Listening and following directions is anoth-

er very important skill that we practice everyday!

We love to get hands for good behavior and for

good participation. Our hands eventually make it

up on a wall in our school.

Our secretary, Mrs. Barclay is using the hands

this year to make giant pictures from one of our

favorite authors, Eric Carle. And, several kinder-

gartners have had their names chosen for the

Wee Warrior Character t-shirts!

In computer lab we have been learning a lot from

the website called www.abcya.com. It is a free

and user friendly site that gives the students

fun ways to explore concepts that we cover in

our curriculum.

As the holiday break approaches, be thinking

about fun activities you can spend time doing

with your child to keep their minds and hands

busy! Take a trip to the library and choose some

great books to read together. Keep a home jour-

nal to draw and label exciting events that occur

on those days off! Even taking some time to en-

joy playing a board game together fosters so

many important and valuable skills.

We wish everyone safe, healthy and happy holi-

days!

Primary North Kindergarten Teachers,

Angela Byrd, Terry Robertson and Tricia Wilke

We have been so busy in kindergarten at Pri-

mary South learning letters, sounds, and

words.

We are reciting our weekly poems and songs

and reading our leveled books! We are writing

and drawing in our color journals. We are be-

coming readers and writers.

We are also becoming experts in counting

and writing our numbers. We have been play-

ing fun math games like Roll and Record and

the Game of Compare in order to learn more

about numbers and counting. We are learning

good problem solving skills with our Math In-

vestigations Program.

We had a “Thanksgiving Feast” just before

Thanksgiving break. Students dressed like

Pilgrims and Native Americans. We ate lunch

together and talked about what we were

thankful for.

Please don’t forget to keep working at home

on the homework and books your child brings

home. Your continued support will help your

child succeed!

Before School Clubs

MATH MAGICIANS CLUB By Mrs. Debbie Grueninger

The 1st Grade Math Magicians Club has been working on a lot of different math skills. We played Math Jeopardy on Math Mystery Day and the students responded to questions on money, addition, word problems, subtrac-tion and doubles.

During Math in Art, they created repeated patterns with unifix cubes and then drew the designs on paper. Last, they created beautiful beaded necklaces with their pat-terns. Math in the Environment was a fun day. The stu-dents divided into four teams (red, blue, green and yel-low). They tossed bean bags on a "hopscotch" mat of numbers. The teams were asked to find that number of objects in the room.

Incredible, Edible Math involved playing Snowflake BIN-GO using chocolate coins as markers. We are having a lot of fun learning about math, but unfortunately we only have five more Wednesdays left for 1st Grade. In Janu-ary, we'll start 2nd Grade Math Magicians Club.

ROCKET

READERS CLUB By Mrs. Karen Emmons

The 2nd Grade Rocket Readers Club has been learning different genre by creating their own poems and currently writing their own Mystery stories.

Sitting on the school porch one cool Fall morning, students were introduced to poetry by using their five senses. The students incorporated some of their rhyming words they could hear, see, taste, smell and touch into their original poems. The members spent time in the computer lab typ-ing and adding clip art in their original works of poetry.

For their next genre, members are cooking up a mystery, using “Ingredients for a Mystery” and checking that all the ingredients are found in the mystery they are writing. The structure of a mystery usually looks like this: Beginning: Characters are introduced and the reader learns about the problem. Middle: Detectives work to solve the mys-tery by interviewing suspects and gather clues and END: The mystery is solved. Members are also adding their own "Red Herring” to try and distract the detective off track.

Members enjoying reading with book buddies are also keeping a journal of the books they are reading through the week.

Special Thanks to "Crayons to Computers" for the dona-tion of books that members received this week during our Rocket Reader Mystery Party.
