PAYMENT METhODSFor your convenience the Burlington Area Commu-nity YMCA-YWCA offers three types of membership payment plans: Bank Draft, Full Annual Payment (cash, check, Visa or Mastercard), and monthly payment. Monthly payments are due on the 1st of each month.1. Bank Draft is an automatic monthly withdrawal from your checking, savings, or Credit Card account. We will need a copy of a voided check and the first month’s payment to begin. This plan is perpetual, which means once started it runs continuously until you decide to stop. To terminate or change a Bank Draft membership see the Cancellation Policy.2. Full Annual Payment is paid upon purchasing or renewing a membership by cash, check or credit card.3. The monthly payment plan offers members the opportunity to pay for their annual membership by the month. Participants will receive a payment booklet, no invoices will be sent. Payments must be received by the 10th of each month. Payments received after the 10th will have a $10 late fee added to the balance due. The membership is per-petual. To cancel see Cancellation Policy.

CANCELLATION POLICYStop by or call the membership office for assis-tance before you join another YM/YW.To terminate or change a Bank Draft or monthly membership, you are required to complete a cancellation/change form at the Burlington Area Community YMCA-YWCA. This notification must be received by the last day of the month to be effec-tive for the following month. Informing the Y of your cancellation rather than simply stopping pay-ment will keep your record accurate and prevent late fees from being added to your membership record unnecessarily.

WATER FITNESS CLASSES

Water fitness classes can benefit individuals who are just starting to exercise, as well as those who would like a more intense workout (each person ex-ercises at his/her own pace). Water exercises put less stress on joints than land exercises because the effects of gravity are minimized. Working against water resistance improves muscle strength and tone and cardiorespiratory endurance. Swimming skills are not needed for participation. There is a 10% senior discount for those 60 years old and older. Please be sure to ask at the Front Desk.

Shallow-Water Workout: This full-body workout is a combination of cardiorespiratory endurance, mus-cle conditioning, and interval training. You do not need to put your head under water, but your hair may get wet. Ages: 14 and up Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00 – 10:00 am

Combo Workout: This is a full-body work-out with a combination of cardiorespiratory endurance, muscle conditioning, and interval training. It is conducted in both shallow and deep water. The deep water allows partici-pants to achieve an increased range of mo-tion using non-impact movements. Your hair may get wet in this class.Ages: 14 and upSchedule: Monday,Wednesday 6:15 - 7:15pmTuesday & Thursday 4:30-5:30pm

TParent/Child Swimming Classes Cont.

Inia - Age: 13 - 23 months. Children do more in-dependent exploration of the aquatic environment with help from their parents. The parents again re-view and learn additional information about aquatic safety. The program provides opportunities for par-ent /child teams to socialize with each other.

Perch - Age: 24 - 36 months. Children start moving more independently through the water under their parents’ guidance. Parents learn more about aquat-ic and boating safety, and children begin to learn something about these topics as well. At this point the instructor begins to prepare the children to work directly with an instructor on their own.

Pre-School Swimming Classes: Ages 3-5

Pike - Age: 3 - 5 years. This level helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water. It is designed for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, pool safety, proper use of instructional flotation devices and PFDs, and com-fort with holding the face in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming. May be combined with Eel if enrollment is low.

Eel - Age: 3 - 5 years. This advanced beginner level reinforces Pike skills. It is for children who are com-fortable in the water. They are taught to kick, float, and perform the progressive paddle stroke. They also learn basic boating safety and use of PFDs. Children can swim across the pool without assis-tance by the end of this level. May be combined with Pike if enrollment is low.

Ray - Age: 3 - 5 years. At this level children review previous skills, improve stroke skills, learn more per-sonal, safety, and rescue skills, build endurance by swimming on their front and back, and learn to tread water. Children can swim across the pool on their front and back without assistance by the end of this level. May be combined with Starfish if enrollment is low.

Starfish - Age: 3 - 5 years. Children at this level review previously learned skills and re-fine their strokes as well as their personal safety, rescue, and floating skills. They also learn underwater swimming skills. Children can swim a length of the pool on their front and back at the end of this level. May be combined with Ray if enrollment is low.

Youth Swimming Lessons: Ages 6-11

Polliwog - Age: 6 – 11. This is the beginning level for school-age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices, and floating. By the end of this lev-el, they should know the front paddle stroke, side and back paddle, and some synchronized swimming and wetball (lead-up game to water polo) movements. Children can swim across the pool without assistance by the end of this level. May be combined with Guppy if en-rollment is low.

Guppy - Age: 6 – 11. The children continue to practice and build upon basic skills, now per-forming more skills without the aid of a flotation device. They are introduced to lead-up strokes to the front and back crawl, sidestroke, breast-stroke, and elementary backstroke. More syn-chronized swimming and wetball skills are taught, as well as some diving skills. Children can swim a length of the pool without assistance at the end of this level. May be combined with Polliwog if enrollment is low.

Minnow - Age: 6- 11. This is the initial inter-mediate level. The children further refine the lead-up strokes they have learned as their skills become more like those normally used in swimming. They learn still more synchro-nized swimming, wetball, personal safety, boating, and rescue. May be combined with Fish if enrollment is low.

Circle SwimmingWhat is Circle Swimming?Circle Swimming is basically Follow the Leader and is used when there are 2 or more swim-mers wanting to use the same lane. Always check with the other swimmer(s) to let them know you would like to circle swim. After getting the go ahead, enter the water. Always swim on the right side of the lane. Be sure not to swim over the black line, as this will be used as a sort of passing lane. For safety reasons, leave a 5-10 second inter-val between you and the swimmer in front of you. If you need to pass the swimmer in front of you, carefully check for on coming swim-mers. Then swim out and around and back in to your lane quickly, always checking for on coming swimmers, as they have the right of way. When you get to the wall to turn, do so quickly and get off to the right side of the lane. If you stop to rest get as far into the corner of the lane as possible and watch out for your fellow swimmers.Confused? Visit with a lifeguard and they can help you out. Below is a diagram of what cir-cle swimming looks like.
