Page 2: Winter Leadership Conference 2009

The year 2009 has been tumultuous for the world of bankruptcy and restructuring: a near record pace of public company filings, many of unprecedented size and complexity; the highest number of personal bankruptcies since BAPCPA, fueled in part by the relentless wave of foreclosures; a virtual nationalization of two-thirds of the domestic auto industry and a historic, muscular role for the government in corporate structure and finance; massive frauds on investors, resulting in high-profile prosecutions; a severe tightening of credit markets among key players in the private equity and hedge fund communities, and contraction and consolidation among major law firms, even while bankruptcy professionals are busier than ever.

These themes from today’s headlines and more are featured at the ABI’s 21st Annual Winter Leadership Conference, which returns to one of our most popular venues, the La Quinta Resort & Club near Palm Springs, California.

More than a dozen committee educational programs compliment 10 concurrent sessions and two plenary breakfast programs, developed by our Vice President - Education Jim Markus. Some of the top restructuring and financial professionals in the country are confirmed to speak, including several of the nation’s most prominent judges. Our guest luncheon speaker is best-selling author Amity Shlaes, whose book on the history of the Great Depression, The Forgotten Man, provides striking lessons about the role of government in today’s economic and political climate.

As always, the Winter Conference provides numerous social and fun events to network and renew friendships with your colleagues from around the nation. We look forward to seeing you at beautiful and sunny La Quinta in December.

Robert J. KeachABI President

Choose from a rare 1930 New Standard biplane or a thrilling 1941 Stearman Warbird. Take an unforgettable flight with your family or friends in “Stanley”—a 1930 New Standard biplane (the cockpit holds four to five passengers). The New Standard biplane was built specifically for barnstorming by Ivan Gates of “Gates Flying Circus” and Charles Healy Day. Stanley is one of the few New Standards flying in the world today. Don’t miss an opportunity to experience an authentic barnstorming ride in this rare airplane! Or, for more hands-on thrills, take a ride in a 1941 Stearman Warbird, a WW2 open cockpit biplane trainer. You get to fly, and even have the option to perform aerobatics. Your flight may be serene and scenic, or thrilling and aerobatic, because it is tailored just for you. The Stearman Warbird is equipped with an in-flight video system set to music from the era. $225 per person includes transportation, flight and flight certificate. Please check the appropriate box on the registration form.
