Winter Trees using paint:
These paintings were very simple but effective. Here is
how we did it.
![Page 5: Winter art from Ireland](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052618/554c56beb4c905452e8b4be2/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
First we glued a strip of black paper onto an A3 size sheet of white paper. Then we used white paint to paint the trunk of the tree and some thicker branches.
Next we continued on the branches on the white paper, using black paint.
![Page 6: Winter art from Ireland](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052618/554c56beb4c905452e8b4be2/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
We continued painting our branches. Then we used a drawing pin to scrape out rough textures on the trunk. This was all, a
very simple art idea to show bare winter trees!

Finished! Here are some samples. They look good!

Winter Trees using Pastels
![Page 9: Winter art from Ireland](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052618/554c56beb4c905452e8b4be2/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
We began by lightly drawing the outline of a tree on a sheet of white A4 paper. Then we used blue pastels to shade around the outline of the tree.
Next we used charcoal to shade in the tree. We blended the charcoal with our fingers. This gave a blurry effect, like Winter fog!
![Page 10: Winter art from Ireland](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052618/554c56beb4c905452e8b4be2/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Next, we added water to white paint and mixed it. We used a paint brush to flick the paint onto our picture to
create a snow effect.

Finished!
An Geimhreadh –the Irish for
“Winter”
![Page 13: Winter art from Ireland](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052618/554c56beb4c905452e8b4be2/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Finally, we made ‘penguin cards’ – a really simple idea for young children.
All we needed to make these was black card, white paper, glue and an orange crayon. Easy!
![Page 14: Winter art from Ireland](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052618/554c56beb4c905452e8b4be2/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
First we folded the sheet of black card in half. Then we cut out a simple
template of a penguin on white paper.
![Page 15: Winter art from Ireland](https://reader033.fdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022052618/554c56beb4c905452e8b4be2/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Next we traced around the outline of the penguin on the black card. We cut out the shape of the penguin.
On the white paper, we cut out the belly, eyes and beak of the penguin and stuck these onto the penguin using
glue.

We coloured in the penguin’s beak and that was it! Simple!

Some finished penguins!
