What is a Pediatrician?A pediatrician is a child’s doctor who provides routine preventive health care for healthy children as well as medical care when they are sick or injured. Pediatricians work with families to manage the physical, mental and emotional well-being of their patients, in every stage of development from birth on up. Care When You Need It.Need after-hours medical care? At Mercy, you have options based on how urgent and severe the problem is, and not every situation requires a visit to the emergency room.
Mercy Convenient Care Convenient Care is a great choice when you can’t get in to see your child’s regular doctor, for around the same cost as an office visit. Stop by Mercy Convenient Care – no appointment necessary – to treat minor health issues, including:• Coughs, colds and flu • Sore throats• Ear problems • Urinary discomfort• Minor skin conditions • Minor injuries
Mercy Kids has a dedicated pediatric Convenient Care location in Cottleville on Mid Rivers Mall Dr.
Mercy Urgent Care/ Mercy-GoHealth Urgent CareFor more serious conditions that might require stitches or X-rays, head to Mercy Urgent Care, at multiple area locations. Here we can treat all the conditions as our Convenient Care and more, including:• Coughs, colds and flu • Sore throats• Ear problems • Urinary discomfort• Minor skin conditions • Minor injuries• Minor burns • Sprains and strains• Possible broken bones • Animal or insect bites• Flu, strep or mono • Simple cuts, puncture wounds
The cost is higher than a visit to the Convenient Care, but less than a trip to the ER.
Mercy Hospital Emergency RoomConvenient and urgent care are not substitutes for the emergency room. Mercy Hospital St. Louis and Mercy Hospital South have pediatric ERs that specialize in treating kids.
For serious or life-threatening problems, such as many of the following, call 911 immediately!• Chest pain • Severe breathing difficulty• Fast heartbeat • Someone faints (more than 120-150) or is unresponsive• Difficulty speaking • Heavy bleeding• Broken bones visible • Drowning through the skin • Choking• Severe burns • Extremely hot or cold• Allergic reaction with • Poisoning or drug overdose breathing diffculty • New severe headache
If you already have a Mercy pediatrician, we’ll be able to see your child’s electronic health record that includes the physician’s notes and medical history. In return, your doctor will see details about your child’s visits with us.
