Did you know that mammoths, mastodons and giant ground sloths used to roam these lands?

In October 2010, a bulldozer operator working near Snowmass Village unearthed a single tusk of a young female mammoth. Over the next ten months, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science stepped in and uncovered more than 5,000 bones of prehistoric animals – 41 species in all. The Snowmass site quickly became the richest Ice Age ecosystem yet to be found at such high altitude.

Visit the Ice Age Discovery Center on the Snowmass Mall to learn the amazing story behind the discovery. The exhibit is fun for both kids and adults, with interactive displays, a resident paleontologist, and plenty of fossilized bones and teeth.

Open daily, 10:00am–5:00pm. Admission is free. Call 970.922.2277 for more information.

Getting Here

WINTER IN SNOWMASS MIGHT GET ALL THE ATTENTION,

BUT SUMMER TURNS HEADS AS WELL.

In the summer, sweet mountain air, the magnificence of nature at your doorstep,

and a bounty of engaging events and adventures make for a mountain of memorable moments. Activities, from hiking and rafting, to cheering

bucking bronco riders at the rodeo or enjoying a picnic at a free hillside concert,

will take your breath away.

In Snowmass, biking is to summer what skiing is to winter. Lift-served terrain for all abilities, beautiful cross-country trails,

easy access to equipment rentals, and professional, confidence-building instruction

ensure that your time on two wheels is nothing short of spectacular.

Dear Dreamers, Travelers and Adventurers,

What if I could set you free?Embrace you in snow and wrap you in laughter, give you wings and bring you back to earth.

If I said limits fall like snowflakes, would you let me set you free?

Forever yours, Snowmass
