    Winter Birthdays

    SHREVEPORT SNOW DAYS!

During the last week of February,

Shreveport received its first big snow

    in several years. Renzi was

    closed for three days, along

    with Caddo and Bossier City

    schools.

    EVERYBODY LOVES BRAVEHEART

Theres a good reason this sweet dog is named Braveheart.

Somewhat of a local celebrity, Braveheart and his owner Mr. Bo

visited the Renzi Center on Fat Tuesday, just days after riding on

his own float in the Highland parade. He was Grand Ambassador,

after all. He was also Grand Marshall of the Barkus and Meaux

    parade!

Braveheart has a unique story. A story of survival. A boxer-pit-bull

mix, Braveheart had a horrifying experience almost two years ago.

His previous owner left him in an enclosed storage unit for

approximately 3 weeks. When Braveheart was found, he could

barely lift his head and weighed about 8 pounds, 1/3 of his weight.

Mr. Bo and his wife, a pair of animal rescuers, adopted Braveheart

and gave him a loving home.

Thanks to the members of PEP!, our Renzi students got to spend an

entire afternoon having fun with Braveheart.

  • STOP THE BURN!

    Throughout the month of February,

    members of the Concerned Citizens

    of the Camp Minden Explosives

    Open Burn organization, along with

singer A.J. Haynes, visited the Renzi

Center to shoot a music video protesting the open burn at

Camp Minden. The students were encouraged to play

various instruments in the courtyard, play with a colorful

parachute, follow the leader, and use cell phones to

capture video from their point-of-view. Even if some of the

students didnt understand exactly what the video was all

about, it was evident that they knew their participation

was important. The video, featuring 2014 Louisiana Music

Prize winner A.J. Haynes is currently being circulated via

Facebook, YouTube, and other internet outlets in order to

raise awareness about the importance of finding a safe way

to dispose of the Camp Minden explosives.
