    What if you could have your own personal guide joinyou on your park visit to describe the natural andcultural history of everything you see? Palmetto IslandsCounty Park is making that happen. The parks newinterpretive cell phone tour allows visitors to accessaudio recordings, photos, and videos aboutPalmetto Islands.

    At ten stops throughout the park, visitors can use theirpersonal cell phones to access information about theirsurroundings. Verbal and pictorial details of locationssuch as Nature Island, the lookout tower, and theoyster restoration area provide an interesting overviewof the parklands archaeology and anthropology. Hearinformation and sound clips about the unique historyof the park and the area, as well as information onwaterways and different environmental zones. Withthe cell phone tour, plants and animals within the parkbecome easier to spot. Interesting facts and tidbits willgreatly enhance your park visit and open your eyes tonatural inhabitants you may never have noticed. Its likehaving an interpreter tour guide lead the way!

    Users who have smart phones with a barcode scanningapplication may also scan QR codes on site to accessthe tour and follow on-screen instructions to view selectphotos directly on their mobiles. Photos include plant,insect, and animal life in the park, as well as diagrams,maps, and more. There is no fee for the tour, but usersare required to utilize their personal cell phone minutes.
