1. Student Achievement - Continue Implementation of the Academic Plan to Address:

Many programs, services, and materials have been selected to continue addressing academic

achievement. In order to effectively address achievement, we focused on articulation,

classroom instruction, and appropriate and current resources, as these areas are critical to

closing the achievement gap and increasing proficiency.

d. Promote Cultural Competence throughout the District

In an effort to address culture diversity and how it effects teaching and learning, the district acquired the services of Dr. Debbie Silvers. Over a four-day period (March 4-7, 2019), she addressed the staff and students from Schools No. 1 through No. 6. She covered:

∎ Cultural diversity and a sense of community through demonstrations, audience participation, stories, and videos.

∎ Creative Thinking, ∎ Self-assessment Strategies, ∎ Commitment, courage, and character,∎ Understanding the importance of goal-setting, and;∎ Working toward goals in spite of individual differences and uniqueness.

Approximately two-hundred and twenty-five (225) teachers and 2,200 students participated in the workshops.

November 6, 2018:

Topic: Fall Down 7 Times, Get Up 8: Teaching Kids to Succeed:Dr. Silvers presented to Middle and High School teachers on factors that affect student motivation. Her presentation included:

∎ Overview of motivation theory,∎ Factors affecting student motivation, ∎ Concept of self-efficacy and its effect on student effort,∎ Zone of proximal development, deliberate practice, and growth mindset, ∎ Practical applications and guidelines for teachers to help students

overcome setbacks and failure to foster life-long success.

Approximately eighty-seven (87) teachers attended.

We also acquired the services of the Federal Education Association

Topic: Social Emotional Learning: Educating for Behavioral Change

The session focused on the integration of the NJ DOE Social-EmotionalCompetencies into classroom practices to increase students’ learningexperiences, and their capacity to learn, as well as an awareness of thedifferences among individuals, groups, and others’ cultural backgroundsto promote an understanding of the need for mutual respect.

Approximately ninety (90) teachers attended.

Band/Color Guard JROTC Theater Productions Vocal Music/Instrument Productions Club Activities We have placed students on the All-South Jersey, All-State, and the

Eastern Regional Honor Choirs

Athletics

Our teams have had respectable seasons, placing students on All-Conference and All-South Jersey Teams, as well as winning one Sectional, and one State Championship this year.
