Alqueva Dam, a strategic element for the deve-

The Alqueva dam, whose reservoir generates the largest artificial lake in
Western Europe is situated on the Guadiana river, in the Alentejo country-
side, being located near the village of Alqueva.
The lake stretches over 80 km of the river. Besides being built for the pur-
pose of irrigation throughout the Alentejo and have an important central
hydro-electric, plays a key role for tourism in the Alentejo region of the
interior.
In Juromenha, and in particular in Monte do Rio, this surrounding water,
broken only by plains typical of the region, makes this place a cult of tran-
quility.

seems to be suspended like a walled eagle's
nest on the hill of the
same name, protected by the fourteenth-
century castle.

Great Estates Unique Country Houses
The Estate is located between Régua and Pinhão, 5 Km away from Douro River (left
bank). Just 20 minutes from restaurants, banks, shops, hospital, post office and wine-related business and state bodies. The nearest international airport is at 100 Km ( Porto).
Lisboa and Madrid are, respectively, at 390 and 515 Km distant by motorway.
The Douro valley is one of the most impressive lands-
capes in the world. Unesco has classify it as a World
Heritage site.
"Wine has been produced by traditional landholders in
the Alto Douro region for some 2,000 years. Since the
18th century, its main product, port wine, has been world
famous for its quality. This long tradition of viticulture
has produced a cultural landscape of outstanding beauty
that reflects its technological, social and economic evolu-
tion. It is an outstanding example of a traditional Euro-
pean wine-producing region, reflecting the evolution of
this human activity over time."
Source: UNESCO
The region offers great contrasts, the Douro is marked by
the shale mountains ranges of Marão and Montemuro,
sheltered from Atlantic winds and creating a Mediterra-
nean and continental climate. The Douro River and its
tributaries wend their way at the bottom of vertiginous
valleys, forming a landscape of wild and mysterious
beauty subject to huge temperature changes from scor-
ching summers to freezing winters.
Itineraries for the tourist are endless, from the famed
Port producing “quintas” to the more recently-discovered
pre-historic rock-carvings along the banks of the River
Côa. There are fine restaurants and good hotels to disco-
ver, with boat trips up the Douro and steam-train jour-
neys – all within sight of the countryside’s breathtaking
beauty. Regional cuisine is matched well by fabulous
Ports and the ever increasing number of fine Douro
wines.

Estremadura Wine Region
The West is one of the largest Wine Regions of Portugal
and the world: full-bodied aromatic wines and precious
value of alcohol. The South alive while new, intense and
balanced, with a rare "bouquet" as old.
Of this diversity was born in 1989 the Zona Vitivinícola de
Óbidos, covering almost the entire area of the municipali-
ties of Bombarral, Cadaval, Obidos and Caldas da Rainha
and the Zona Vitivinícola de Alenquer, Arruda e Torres
(municípios de Alenquer, Arruda dos Vinhos, Sobral de
Monte Agraço e Torres Vedras), com selos DOC
(denominação de origem controlada). The Region also is
distinguished by the production of DOC "Light Wines",
the lower alcohol content and the existence, unique in
Country, Denomination of Controlled Origin of Spirits
Lourinhã wine and, more recently, surprising
sparkling. It is a rich economic, tourist and
cultural region of the "Route of Vine and Wine of the
West" while intended to strengthen the tourist circuit.
About 25 farms can be viewed from three distinct cir-
cuits. In this visits can now marvel at the
vineyard or even try a good harvest. You can scroll spa-
ces of the cycle of wine, or just taste a few nectars
accompanied by fine cheeses from region or conventual
sweets.
The linhas de torres circuit rediscovers rails of Duke of
Wellington and the Peninsular War.
In the Óbidoscircuit contacts with the Medieval Alcobaça
Monastery spirit, the town of Obidos, the Queen Leonor
Caldas, Bombarral Farms and the fresh air of Montejunto
in Cadaval.
The Quintas de Alenquer circuit brings us to the ima-
ginary Farms and Solar fifteenth century. To the Village
Crib of Alenquer, figures such as Pedro Alvares Cabral
and Damião de Góis.
The West is the exuberance of the tones that dress. The vine
growing and wine production is a tradition of many centuries,
and which reflects the diversity and beauty of the region.
The quality of the wines produced in the region, the beauty
of the farms, the pleasure of welcoming its people are the
reasons why Silver Coast hope many visits for an unforgetta-
ble experience.

Winkworth Lisboa | +351 918 621 869 | [email protected] www.winkworth-international.com
Winkworth since 1835
Winkworth originated in central London in 1835. Our original Head Office was located in Curzon Street, Mayfair, with a country office in Brighton. Our main business involved selling resi-
dential property to an exclusive client list and letting houses in Mayfair to the landed gentry for 'the season'.
Of course, things are very different today. Society has changed and so has Winkworth. Our network now has over 80 independently owned and operated offices. Over 50 offices are
located in prime central London and greater London, established country offices are located across the UK and carefully controlled expansion into exclusive international markets has
taken our business to France and Portugal.
As a name synonymous with prime residential real estate, Winkworth has become the obvious choice for both UK and international buyers and sellers.
The Network
Every single Winkworth office is owned by an independent proprietor, whose market expertise is unlikely to be surpassed. Our proprietors and their staff are encouraged to be active
members of the local community too, which means they have a vested interest in ensuring every client receives an exemplary service. All our offices work together. They share business
and refer those clients that they can't help, perhaps because they don't cover the area in question, to an office that can. As a client, you don't just benefit from the services of one
Winkworth office, you benefit from a whole network of offices, plus the specialist marketing services of the Franchisor Office in London.
