For those of you who have not incorporated golf into your New Year’s resolutions yet, here’s one to consider: I like this sign; it summarizes our Chapter once our golf season gets underway in the Chicago Metro area. Basically we offer golfing opportunities every day of the week. Don’t forget to check our website for information about our upcoming season. Board members and other volunteers are busy working on the plans for our 2015 season and as the information is finalized the details are being posted on the website. And you don’t have to wait for spring to get involved as there are a number of activities already underway as detailed on our website and on our chapter’s Facebook page. Shirley

Windy City Tee Times January 2015 Newsletter In Memory of Janice Pacilio: Cantigny is the former estate of Colonel Robert R. McCormick. In his will, McCormick instructed that his estate be used for philanthropic purposes and that his home and lands be used as a source of recreation and education for the people of Illinois. The McCormick Foundation is committed to fostering communities of educated, informed and engaged citizens.

Cantigny golf course is owned by the McCormick Foundation and managed by Kemper Sports.

Cantigny golf course was a favorite of the late Janice Pacilio – past president of the EWGA Chicago Metro Chapter, who recently lost her battle with cancer. A number of friends of Janice have expressed an interest in contributing to a memorial for her, and that the memorial be located at her favorite golf course in the area, Cantigny. Mara Wasar has taken the lead in this and, in conjunction with the golf course superintendent, has a proposal that is in keeping with the spirit of the McCormick Foundation and would be a fitting tribute to Janice.

Windy City Tee Times January 2015 Newsletter The picture above is of the tee on hole #9 Woodside and shows barn swallows perching on a cable installed specifically for that purpose. The next step is to install a sign close to the bridge to educate people on barn swallows. Did you know that

Also Cantigny plans to augment the Honey Bee Hill prairie left of the tee on 9 Woodside. In return for funding the barn swallow sign and the prairie hill, this area would be dedicated to Janice and a memorial plaque installed.

If you are interested in making a donation then please visit our website for information on how you can help make this dream a reality. http://www.ewgachicago.com/eventInfo.php?eid=45&n=Online+Fundraising+for+Janice+Pacilio+Memorial

In addition to this, plans are in the works to hold a Janice Pacilio Memorial Golf Outing (and hopefully a dedication ceremony)

on Saturday June 13th, 2015 – Janice’s birthday.

“The  killing  of  Barn  Swallows  for  their  feathers  was  one  of  the  problems  that  led  to  the  founding  of  the  Audubon  Society  and  the  passage  of  the  Migratory  Bird  Treaty  Act.”
