Kick Off 7:45pmUhlsport Hellenic League

Premier Division

Matt

Like London buses, we wait weeks for a home matchand then two come along in the space of 4 days!

This evening we offer a warm welcome to Binfieldand hope players, officials and supporters enjoy theirvery brief stay in The Great Park.

Our welcome is extended to the men in the middletoday, our officials, Messrs Simmons, Saunders andPilling. Again, enjoy yourselves and all that StagMeadow has to offer.

Last week saw us bow out of the League Cup at theSemi-Final stage. A defeat over at Bracknell endingany chance of silverware this season.

Disappointing but not soul-destroying in any wayshape or form! We’ve given this season a decentcrack and fallen short of glory by small margins.

There are just league games left to play now, andwhilst it will be nice to finish with a flurry of wins forour own sake, we could have a huge say in thedestination of the league title and top three places!

That’s our challenge – to go out and beat the likes ofBracknell & Wantage at home and Highworth away onThursday evening!

With regards the Bracknell match, we areexperimenting with Friday Night Football on Friday20th April – and entry is FREE.

Enjoy the game…

Alex Bournat has been appointed as the Windsor FCSupporters Representative.

Alex will work closely with Football Club FoundingDirector Kevin Stott and has been tasked with re-energizing and re-engaging supporters with the FootballClub.

We managed to catch up with Alex earlier this week;

“I am very excited to have been invited to join theteam. The role is a new one and will develop with time.Initially, and in a nutshell, the aim is to re-engagesupporters with the club. Make sure supporters withquestions know where to go to ask them and moreimportantly, get answers to those questions.”

“Whether the answers are what people want to hear is adifferent matter, but half of the battle is making surelines of communication are open.”

“The social media side of things has improvedimmensely this season, the Twitter account has a newlease of life and with a regular Facebook feed of info viathe Windsor FC Supporters page, information iscurrent.”

“Over the next few weeks I’ll look to get a dedicatedemail address up and running for anyone with questionsor suggestions and can answer privately orcommunicate through the social media channels andthe programme.”

Thanks,

Anyone, wondering who Alex is, you can usually findhim behind the goal with a very discoloured club scarf!!

Respect. It's been banded around in football overrecent years. The FA have rolled out initiatives, programmes and campaigns. We've all seen the shirtsleeve logos and centre circle banners?

Respect comes in many forms though, and I'marguing that the Football Association themselves areshowing little or no respect to clubs at our currentlevel (you could probably pull the level above intothat).

Our league fixtures were announced less than 10 daysbefore the scheduled start of the season. Less than 10days. Think about that.

The phrase "If you fail to prepare then prepare to fail"comes to mind.

Since the fixtures were given to our club secretary Imust have seen at least three amendments to thefixture list.

I spotted league fixtures on consecutive days inDecember and we currently will play one team onconsecutive weekends - home and away. That'll bedown to the speed at which the league themselvesfeel they have to put a fixture list together, not havinghad time to check, re-check and consult.

The league season finishes around the first weekendin May...if clubs are appealing points deductions orground issues (which tends to be the reasoningbehind league constitution delays) after that weekendthen the system has failed.

The Football Association needs to show some respectand allow clubs such as ours time to prepare for aseason.

Fixture lists, posters, season tickets and programmesall need time to prepare and print. The less timegiven, the more cost and inconvenience incurred.

It's simply unfair and unnecessary.

Binfield F.C.

Binfield FC first played in 1892, during the reign ofQueen Victoria, making us one of the oldestAssociation Football clubs in the world! The teamcomprised young men from the local brickworks andthose who worked on the land around Binfield.

The club’s early years were spent in the Ascot andDistrict League, where we enjoyed many successfulseasons winning the Fielden Cup for the first time in1924 and on eleven further occasions since.

During the 2nd World War, we joined the GreatWestern Combination League, winning thechampionship in 1947. During that period we alsowon the Berks and Bucks Junior Cup and theMaidenhead Norfolkian Cup and it was not unusualto see crowds in excess of 1,000 at our Forest Roadground.

In 1950 we joined the Reading and District League, where we remained for the next forty years. In1972 Binfield won promotion to the Premier Divisionfor the first time and although relegated two yearslater we returned in 1976 as 1st DivisionChampions.

A huge crowd, reminiscent of the 1940’s, packedForest Road to witness our promotion. In 1980, theclub made an important decision to move fromForest Road, where facilities were shared with thecricket club, to our current site in Hill Farm Lane.Turning that field into the football ground we seetoday was a massive task. Thanks to an enormousamount of physical work by the members of theclub the area was levelled and drained within threeyears.

The members then set about building the clubhouse. This progress off the field was matched on itwhen in 1987 and 1988 we won Division 2 and thenDivision 1 of the Reading and District League. In1989, we joined the high-profile CharringtonChiltonian League, winning the Division 1 title at thefirst attempt – a feat we repeated in 1996 - andreaching the final of the League Cup.

Binfield F.C.

Page 31 – Kindly Sponsored by Thames Fiat

The following year we finished runners-up toPeppard, despite remaining unbeaten fromNovember until the end of the campaign.

In 2001 we merged with Binfield’s junior club,Binfield Forest FC, and in doing so significantlyincreased the member- ship, with over 20 teamsplaying every weekend – this season we will field36 teams each week.

The junior part of the club is very important toBinfield with FA Charter status having beenachieved in 2007 and in 2013 we were awardedthe Berks & Bucks FA and South East Regional FACharter Status Community Club of the Yearawards, culminating in the club being invited tothe FA Community Shield at Wembley in August2013. We’re also in our fourth season of apartnership scheme with Reading FC where someof our younger players have the opportunity totrain with Reading.

In 2003 we added an Allied Counties Youth teamwhich is now providing a steady stream of talentedyoung players ready for Senior football for theReserves and 1st Team.

Our reserves side are a vital and successful part ofour club, providing progression from our youthteam into senior football and regularly providingplayers for the 1st team squad, whilst also beingsuccessful in winning Uhlsport Hellenic Division 2East in 2012 and again in 2014.

Moving to the Suburban League for a newchallenge last season, our reserves excelled, winning the league on the final day and laterbringing the Ascot Fielden Cup back to Binfield FCfor the first time since the 1970s, which the clubfirst won in 1924!

In 2015/16 the side consolidated in the SuburbanPremier Division and retained the Fielden Cup.

Binfield F.C.

Page 32 – Kindly Sponsored by Thames Fiat

Our reserves also provide the bridge from youthinto senior football with our Allied Counties playersa regular feature of reserves teams and many ofour regular reserves stepping up into the 1st teamwhen called upon.

Since 2005, progress at the club has been swift, with the addition of floodlights and later a seatedstand. The club is tirelessly working to improveour facilities with our “continuous improvement”plan making further change to the car park, to theclub house and a new stand around our Tea Bar.

We constantly strive to improve all elements of thefacilities from changing rooms to a playing surfacewe are extremely proud of, to benefit everyonefrom our Under 6s up to our 1st Team andVeterans. We won the FTL Hellenic League Division1 East title in 2008-09 and gained promotion tothe next level of English football, where wefinished runners up in the 2010/11 UhlsportHellenic Premier Division, 3rd in 2012/13 and 5thin 2014.

August 15th 2009 will long be remembered asBinfield’s first game in the legendary FA Cup – andwe have enjoyed some good runs reaching the 1stQualifying round in each of the last two seasonswith 400 supporters enjoying the visit of Margatein 2010 and a trip to Slough Town and narrowdefeat in 2011.

In 2013 the side reached the 2nd Qualifyinground, losing to a 96th minute free kick asLeatherhead came from behind. Binfield enteredthe FA Vase for the first time in season 2008-09and enjoyed three rounds, before reaching the 4thround (last 32) in 2011/12 in an incredible seasonof cup success.

The 2011/12 team is the most successful in ourhistory, winning both the Berks & Bucks FA SeniorTrophy and the AM Print & Copy Floodlit Cup infive glorious April 2012 days. We also reached thefinal of the Hellenic Challenge Cup.

We managed to catch up with Alex earlier this week;

“I am very excited to have been invited to join theteam. The role is a new one and will develop with time.Initially, and in a nutshell, the aim is to re-engagesupporters with the club. Make sure supporters withquestions know where to go to ask them and moreimportantly, get answers to those questions.”

“Over the next few weeks I’ll look to get a dedicatedemail address up and running for anyone with questionsor suggestions and can answer privately orcommunicate through the social media channels andthe programme.”
