This summer has been a busy one and one filled with many highs and lows. We had the highs of Vacation Bible School, seeing many new people involved in ministry with Think Orange, seeing more people in involved in mission (ie. Harrisburg/ youth camp) and we continue to see new faces in worship on Sunday morning. We had the lows associated with saying goodbye to many in our church family who have moved on to different states and even different continents in their service to our country. We also have had to deal with the grave disappointment of being in a season of severe drought, with many farmers having to mow over fields of corn long before harvest. We also have recently had the tragedy of the Aurora, Colorado massacre, and trying to make sense of it all. These highs and lows remind us of the ever-present need to continue to strive to take the message of salvation and hope in Jesus Christ to as many people as possible. In the coming months, there will be many opportunities for us to step out in the name of Jesus Christ to try to reach people for him. On August 4th and 5th our church will be participating in the Homecoming parade. We need as many people as possible to represent Christ and His church in this parade. Then in September, we are starting a new service schedule on Sunday mornings. I’m excited about the prospects of what God might do through the addition of another contemporary service on Sunday morning. I’m also personally excited about adding our new totally traditional service at 11:00am. I enjoy singing the old hymns of the faith. I’m looking forward to that. In the next month, you will continue to get updates and information related to Fall ministry opportunities. In the meantime, I would really appreciate your joining me in prayer for the following if you are willing: 1) That God would help those who are traumatized by the suffering in the world look to Jesus for hope. 2) That God would empower our church as we step out in faith to do new things for him. 3) That God would draw many people to faith in Christ through our new efforts to Reach, Teach, and Help. Dear Friends!

I hope this newsletter finds you well. This summer has been a busy one and one filled

Mascoutah Homecoming opportunities to serve

HOMECOMING PARADE:. Parade is Saturday, August 4th, and Sunday, August 5th, starting at 5 pm. We will gather at the Waldis' home (4 Hunters Trail) at 3:30 pm and ride over to parade site. Need volunteers both Saturday and Sunday to walk and hand out goodies. All

ages welcome. ~Sharon Peterson

WATER DISTRIBUTORS NEEDED: Two or three people are needed to assist in handing out water to the Mascoutah Middle School and High School bands following the parade on August 4 and 5. This is a very easy job and only takes about an hour of your time on either Saturday or Sunday. After a long, hot afternoon the kids always look forward to the ice-cold water waiting for them at the end of the parade. If you would like to help, please

contact me at 566-8501 or [email protected].

~Ron Sinnard

If you have a student going away to college this

Want to join a Youth Choir?

I would like to get an idea of who would be interested in joining if we were to start a youth choir. It will be open to boys and girls from 6th through 12th grade. They will sing once a month for the traditional service (probably the 3rd Sunday of the month). Once I get some feedback, I can fill in more details like when will we practice and for how long. Kids do not have to know how to read music. If parents have

questions, they can call me at 566-8501. ~Carol Sinnard

Bethel Mission Team helped rebuild houses in Harrisburg

Eight members of Bethel UM Church recently went on a weekend mission trip to Harrisburg, Illinois, to help with rebuilding efforts for victims of the tornado that devastated the town on Leap Day, February 29. The group helped with two different houses over two days and visited the First United Methodist Church on Sunday. We hope to make the trip again some time later this year. ~Trey Miller, Outreach e

Thank you to. . .

The Vacation Bible School coordinators would like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s VBS an amazing success. It would not have been possible without the help from everyone who helped with set up, clean up, donations, decorations, and staffing during the week. Together we helped over 250 kids learn that God is always with us, no matter

what. Thank You! ~Debbie Harris and Natalie Durbin

Thank you to our church family for lifting us up in prayer and for providing such an outpouring of love during my recent surgery. A huge thank you to Rose Moeller for coordinating some amazing meals prepared by Suzie Morio, Jill Adkins, Linda Whyte, Marie Dawson, and Mark and Jill Waldis. The meals were not only helpful but so tasty as well. As always to Pastor Jason for providing his presence, prayer and encouragement for us.
