HOW TO CREATE AN ANALYSIS?Let’s look at an easy but representative example.

1. The structure of the files (tables) used in the analysis must be defined; theitems are defined, or retrieved from the data dictionary. The item type is speci-fied, the key type, etc.Each newly created item is added to the data dictionary.

2. Then the relationships between the files (tables) are defined.To link files, just draw a line using the mouse cursor.

3. WinDev then asks simple questions in natural language to automatically deter-mine the type of relationship between the two files: cardinality and possibleneed for a relationship file if the link is “complex” (n-n).

Questions are childs-play. For example, with a PRODUCT file and an ORDER file: Each “product” belongs to at least one “order”: yes or no ?Each “product” can belong to several “orders”: yes or no ?Each “order” has at least one “product”: yes or no?

HOW TO RECOVER AND USE EXISTING INFORMATION

1. If you already have a database (Oracle, AS/400, SQL server, DB2, etc.), you canimport its description automatically (file description, items and relationships).Just perform a drag and drop operation from the server toward the data modeleditor. That’s it!

CONVERTING FILES IN DIFFERENT FORMATS: WDCONVERWDCONVER lets you convert files in various formats (xBase, ASCII, Oracle, AS/400,

Access, DB2, etc.) into WinDev - Hyper File – files format

VIEWING AND MODIFYING FILE CONTENTS: WDMAPWDMAP enables a developer to view, modify, delete, and add content to data files

without writing a single line of code. The selection of the records to view/modify ismade easy thanks to the QBE interface

WDTOOLWDTOOL offers a lot of features to help

maintain developed applications. In caseof hardware problems, it can performextremely fast reindexing of the indexfiles, without requiring the user to exit the application (“hot reindex”).

WDTOOL also enables you to calculate the distribution of the key items of thedatabase based on the data present in the database. This information is then used byqueries for optimizing performance
