Wht is Wind Energy?

Wind Energy is used by windmills which are called wind turbines. The invention is very old but it is really useful.

 

How did people get the idea to make wind turbines?The idea of making wind turbines was by windmills.Have you ever noticed that windmills and wind turbines are kind of the same? Well they actually are. The only difference is that windmills don't have gears but wind turbines do and windmills are made by wood. 

 

Where was it made, When and Why?Windmills were first invented in Persia for grinding grain and pumping water from 500s till 900s. About in 1300s, the first horizontal-axis windmills were apeared in Western Europe.

 

What company was selling windmills for American West?The Hallyday company sold windmills for American West. Daniel Hallayday and John Burnham leaded the company. The company is named Hallayday because the whole thing was Daniel Hallayday's idea. The windmills had thin wooden blades and a wooden body. They also made another company called US Wind Engine Company in 1850s.

 

Did somone make better windmills?Thomas O. Perry conducted over 5000 experiments just trying to build better windmills! He invented windmills which had gears to reduce the rotational speed of the blades. This windmill has smoother pumping action, better lifting power and could operate in lighter winds. In that time windmills were used to pump water, shell corn, saw wood and mill grain in 1880s.

 

When were wind turbines invented?Charles F. Brush made some windmills which could generate electricity for Cleveland and Ohio. Those windmills were started to be called wind turbines. In later years, General Electricity acquired Charles's company which was Brush Electric Co. in 1888s. Here is a diagram of a wind turbine.

Will it be good for the enviroment?

Wind Energy is good for enviroment because it doesn't create polution too much and i works well, but it is too noisy, it can kill birds and it has got too much wind pressure so if you go near a wind turbine, it might make you fly away. Still it is good for the enviroment.
