Winch Design and Construction
The Neumann Equipment’s range of Marine Winches is based on years of experience dealing with, and being directly involved with end users of this equipment.
The design and engineering of all our Marine Winches is carried out in house by qualified mechanical engineers using FEA Computer modelling software. This is checked by third parties to ensure these products comply with all relevant specifications and Australian Standards.
When purchasing a Marine Winch, you can feel confident in Neumann Equipment designed and manufactured products. From the design stage though to dispatch, our internal Quality Assurance Systems fully comply with AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008.
Material used in our standard range of Marine Winches is Grade 250 Carbon Steel, but upon request 316 Stainless Steel can be used as an option.
Our Abrasive Blast and Industrial Coatings facility complies with Marine Protective Coating Standards and is adjacent to our manufacturing facilities, reducing transport and handling costs.
Our clients can be assured that all manufacturing activities are managed in house with a single point of contact provided to ensure your build process is seamless and delivered as promised.

Windlass Anchor Winches
Windlass Anchor Winches
Neumann Equipment electric and hydraulic Windlass Anchor Winches are designed and manufactured from tough, high quality components for reliability at sea.
There are two configurations for the Windlass Anchor Winches:
Chain gypsies retrieve the chain and feed into a locker below;
Drums which store the chain and rope on a drum.
The Windlass Anchor Winch units are either hydraulically or electrically driven and controlled.
The Windlass Anchor Winch gypsy and windlasses are manufactured with components made from a range of materials, including steel, cast iron or bronze.
Neumann Equipment’s range of Windlass Anchor Winches includes the following standard specifications:
Worm or bevel-helical gearbox;
Gear or geroler style motors (or optional electric drive);
Optional fail safe brake;
Gypsy and capstan are cast to suit your requirements;
Heavy duty marine protective coating.

Capstan Winches
Capstan Winches
Neumann Equipment manufactures several versions of vertically mounted Capstan Winches that can be powered by either hydraulic or electric motors. These are directly coupled to a reduction hub to reduce the speed and increase the torque.
The Capstan Winches can be mounted on the wharf or on the vessel and can be used to haul or pull your vessel toward the dock.
Advantages of a Capstan Winch:
Various rope sizes can be used;
Hauling can commence at any point along a length of rope;
Elimination of the requirement to unwind long rope lengths;
If you need to stop the pull, you simply reduce the amount of tension you are applying to the rope;
Rope is free to be pulled out by another source.
The standard range of Capstan Winches start from 1.2 tonne through to 10 tonne units. Their line speeds are variable from 0 to 20 metres per minute.
The Capstan Winch base is usually mounted by a row of bolts around the outside perimeter, although on occasions these units can be concreted into the foundations.

Mooring Winches
Mooring Winches
Neumann Equipment manufactures a range of Mooring Winches designed to secure a ship in position in relation to the shore or loading equipment that has limited freedom of movement.
These Mooring Winches can be used for heaving the ship alongside, or un-berthing when another ship is involved. The Mooring Winch system holds a pre-set line tension securing the vessel regardless of the tide height.
Neumann Equipment’s range of Mooring Winches include the following standard specifications:
Hydraulic or electrical drives;
Manual adjustment or fully automatic line tension;
Winch drum is supported with a fully sealed self-aligning outrigger bearing;
Winch base and drum are fabricated from grade 250 carbon steel, 316 stainless steel optional;
Heavy duty marine protective coating.
Our Mooring Winches range from 5 tonne through to 20 tonne, with variable line speeds from 0 to 20 metres per minute. These winches are optioned with a manually operated parking lock, which eliminates drum movement when the equipment is not electrically connected.

Chain Jaws
Chain Jaws
Neumann Equipment manufactures Chain Jaws to suit 46 mm anchor chain.
The device is designed to eliminate loading of the anchor winch by the anchor chain.
The chain can be hauled in when the jaws are closed as they are spring loaded to allow the chain to pay in. To drop anchor into deeper water the jaws must be hydraulically opened, allowing the chain to pay out freely.
Neumann Equipment’s Chain Jaws include the following standard specifications:
To suit 46mm chain;
Jaws operated hydraulically;
Spring loaded jaws to allow chain to pay in;
The unit can be pivoted up for maintenance;
Fabricated from grade 250 carbon steel;
