The report, based on the quarterto Sep 2012, revealed fluctuatingmarket conditions and recordtourist arrival figures have forcedcommercial developers andgovernments to take proactivesteps to ensure hotel groups areencouraged to develop newproperties in Australian cities. Currently, 60 new hotel projectsare at varying developmentstages across Australia, includingFour Points by Sheraton projectsin Sydney and Brisbane, Crownworks in both Sydney and Perth &smaller projects in Melbourne. However, many of the largerprojects are not expected to beopened until 2015 or later. MEANWHILE, on the tourism

outlook, the Deloitte report foundthe number of short domesticholidays taken by Australians hadincreased by 10.6% in the year toSep 2012 - the highest on record. Western Australia saw thelargest growth, with visitor nightsclimbing 26.4% year-on-year. Outbound departures remainedstrong, but not as strong as thedouble-digit growth figuresrecorded over the last two years. Inbound arrivals were led againby China, although the reportfound a revival from traditionalmarkets of Japan and the USA.
