SYNOPSIS OF PLOT

(This synopsis was taken from Dramatists Play Service, Inc.)“At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. The plot shows how Tony, the attractive young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore home on the wrong evening. The shock sustained by the Kirbys, who are invited to eat cheap food, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question. The Sycamores, however, though sympathetic to Alice, find it hard to realize her point of view. Meantime, Tony, who knows the Sycamores are right and his own people wrong, will not give her up, and in the end Mr. Kirby is converted to the happy madness of the Sycamores, particularly since he happens in during a visit by an ex-Grand Duchess, earning her living as a waitress. No mention has as yet been made of the strange activities of certain members of the household engaged in the manufacture of fireworks; nor of the printing press set up in the parlor; nor of Rheba the maid and her friend Donald; nor of Grandpa’s interview with the tax collector when he tells him he doesn’t believe in the income tax. “

DIRECTOR ’S NOTE

When I was growing up, Grandpa Chet always asked me, “Has Hollywood called yet?” After all, he had seen my first performance portraying the role of a singing snowman in The Elves and the Shoemaker. Like Grandpa in You Can’t Take It with You, he wanted me to be doing something I loved. I know this isn’t Hollywood, but I feel very blessed to be able to do what I love: teach Spanish and work in the Lord’s service. It has been a great honor and privilege to work with this talented group of students. Our school theme this year is, “Use Me Lord.” It is my prayer that they will all find a way to serve our Lord doing something they love for the good of His kingdom.

B IOGR APHIES

Kyle Bartelt (Ed Carmichael) Kyle is a senior and is jazzed to be in his first Wisco production. He has enjoyed taking part in You Can’t Take It with You as Ed Carmichael. He enjoys acting along with other things: reading, playing video games, playing ninja and card games on motorcycles. Kyle hopes that he will be able to perform many times in the future.

Lydia Buske (Penny Understudy) You Can’t Take It with You will be Lydia’s second production at WLHS. However, this will be Lydia’s first production as an understudy. She really enjoyed trying to portray Penny Sycamore’s non-stop energy, and she learned a lot by bouncing ideas off Sarah Velguth, who plays Penny Sycamore and has been cast in past WLHS productions. Lydia has loved learning to portray these loveable characters with the rest of the cast. She hopes the audience has as much fun watching this show as she has had performing it.

Alesia Dixon (Rheba) Alesia is a freshman. This is her first production ever. Alesia enjoys playing Rheba because she is caring and part of the Sycamore family. Alesia loves peanut butter and chocolate separately but hates them together.

John Doll (Henderson) This will be John’s 3rd performance at WLHS. He is curious to see what he can do with his role as Henderson. Being allowed to act crabby is enjoyable to him. He has loved acting for many years now, and having the privilege of being in this play has not fallen short of pure enjoyment. In his free time, he enjoys bowling and roller-skating. He looks forward to possible performances in the future, and he hopes you enjoy the show.

Stephen Eick (Paul Sycamore) Stephen Eick is a senior. He is 17 years old. This is his first drama production. He was also involved in the musical the previous year. He is involved in Math Track, Forensics, Inspiration, NHS, Compass, and Chamber Choir.

Nicole Gawel (Alice) Nicole is a sophomore, and this is her first production at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. She is thrilled to play the kind, sweet, loving Alice, who is not unlike herself. She loves reading, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. Her favorite moments are being bubbly and happy and yelling at her family because they are crazy and forgetful. She has loved acting in this play and is truly honored to be a part of this cast.

Rendell Giles (Donald) Rendell is a transfer student. He is performing in his first show as a sophomore. He always knew he wanted to act, but this is the first opportunity he has had to appear on stage. Rendell plays the electric guitar, enjoys computer networking and sports. He wants to go to college for computer science.

Natalie Huertas (Gay Wellington) Natalie is a senior this year, and she enjoys drawing anywhere and EVERYWHERE, is in Drama Club, and is determined to NOT break a leg. Prior performances include stage crew for Once Upon a Mattress and The Mouse That Roared. Her quirkiness will be of much help in her role.

Michael Jeske (Boris Kolenkhov) Michael is a veteran of the stage and loves every second of it. His past productions include The Mouse That Roared and Hello Dolly, but he’s had the most fun playing this character by far. He also participates in A Cappella Choir, Wisco Kids, and Chamber Choir.

Elizabeth Johnson (Assistant Director) Elizabeth is a sophomore from Siloah Lutheran. She worked crews for The Mouse that Roared and Crazy for You. She participates in Drama Club, Agents of Change, Pilot, Track and Field, and Book Club. Elizabeth wants to become a kindergarten teacher.

Danielle Krause (Essie) Danielle Krause is appearing in her 5th play/musical production here at Wisco. She has played in Pride and Prejudice, Hello Dolly, The Mouse That Roared, and

B IOGR APHIES (c o n t.)

Crazy for You. She enjoys playing the bubbly and fun-loving character of Essie Carmichael. Danielle is similar to her character, Essie, because she is always having fun. Her hobbies are acting, singing, dancing, reading, and being with the people she cares about the most.

Katie Lynne Krueger (Mrs. Miriam Kirby) Katie is muy emocionada to be in her first fall drama production at Wisconsin Lutheran. And what a show! She loves talking about Wall Street and petting Groucho and Harpo (before they become meals). As a senior, she is involved in Wisco Kids, Chamber Choir, National Honor Society, and Math Track.

Jess Lembke (Man 2, Understudy Alice) This is Jess Lembke’s second play at Wisco. She was also part of pit orchestra in the musical. She really enjoys this play because it’s so funny and exciting. Along with play practice, Jess enjoys ringing handbells, singing, playing saxophone, and solving calculus problems. In the future, Jess hopes to continue all of these fun things while being a math professor or surgeon. Her favorite part of the play is attempting to control Gay Wellington.

Joshua McNeill (Mr. De Pinna) This is Josh’s 3rd WISCO drama production. Josh is a junior who enjoys drama, music, and acting crazy. For Josh’s role, insanity is just what he needs to bring De Pinna to life. He hopes that you enjoy the performance, and that you remember everyone is insane in their own insane way, some more than others, but you have to admit people are funnier that way.

Megan Peters (Man 3, Understudy Swing)After performing in Wisconsin Lutheran High School’s previous drama, Megan just had to try it again. In You Can’t Take It with You, she plays Mac, a “G Man” who catches the Sycamore family by surprise. Along with that role, Megan also understudies the roles of Gay Wellington—an eccentric actress, Mrs. Kirby—an uptight wife, Olga Katrina—a Russian Duchess gone waitress, and another “G Man.” Although it can be

quite challenging to play a tough man, a wild woman, a sophisticated woman, and an ex-Duchess, she loves the characters and the time spent playing them. She enjoys the other cast members and the energy some of them bring to this hilarious comedy. Everyone has put so much work into this play, and she looks forward to performing and showing everyone how the hard work paid off.

Jacob Roberts (Martin Vanderhof “Grandpa”) This is Jacob’s first acting position while at Wisco. He had a lead in his 8th grade play. Jacob enjoys any ninja activity, random dancing and hanging with friends. He enjoys the comic relief and depth his character brings to the play. “Hello” to Sensei, Yoshi, and Mom and Dad.

Kerruan Sheppard (Mr. Kirby) This is Kerruan’s second show. He was General Snippet last year. Kerruan likes long walks on the beach and horseback riding. Just kidding. He really likes singing, acting, reading, and writing. Kerruan is in Drama Club and Book Club. His favorite part of the play is cracking up in rehearsal and being married to Katie, although he is pretty sure her cooking gave him indigestion. So this is where he would normally say, “How’s that?”

Josh Scheibe (Tony Kirby) Josh is no stranger to the Wisco stage. He performed in six shows before You Can’t Take It with You, including playing the roles of Mr. Bennett in Pride and Prejudice and Professor Kokintz in The Mouse That Roared. Josh is the Drama Club President, Editor-in-Chief of the Pilot, and a member of Inspiration, A Cappella, and Chamber Choir. He hopes to become a professional actor and writer.

Sarah Velguth (Penny Sycamore) This is Sarah’s senior year at Wisco and her 4th theatrical performance at this school. She loves the whole cast and will miss them all next year. Her hobbies include making pottery on the potter wheel and listening to her records. One day she hopes to be a well-known ceramicist. Mom, Dad and siblings, hello!!!
