community notes1. Maxwell Youth BasketballThe Maxwell Parks & Recreation will be hosting Basketball Signups for children aged from kindergarten through the sixth grade. The cost is $20 for a participant without new jersey, and $40 for participant with a new jersey. Signups will be held on Thursday, August 20; and Thursday, September 3 at the Maxwell Fire Department from 5PM to 7PM. For more information, contact Kyle Miller at (530) 491-1007.

2. Children’s Day!During the August 13, 2015, Colusa Concert in the Park, the City of Colusa, the Community Advocates for Parents and Children, and First 5 Colusa will be sponsoring Children’s Day with Free and fun activities for the whole family. From 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, come enjoy music by Children’s Musician and Educator Obie Leff, at Veterans Memorial Park in Downtown Colusa.

3. Ice Cream SocialThe Arbuckle United Methodist Church will host its annual Ice Cream Social on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 6 PM. Come and enjoy home made ice cream with family and friends at our annual event. Ice cream and cookies will be served outside on the church lawn. For more information please call 476-2515.

4. Colusa Little League On Monday, August 17, 2015, the Colusa Area Little League will be hosting Fall Ball Signups at Colusa Industrial Properties (100 Sunrise Blvd, Colusa) from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The cost is $30 per child. Minor Base Ball and Softball for ages, 8-9; and Major Baseball and Softball ages, 10-11 will be offered. For more information, contact, Kirt Stassi at (530) 521-9008.

5. Coffee with a CopThe Colusa City Police Department will host it’s monthly ‘Coffee with a Cop’ at Market Street Grill on Monday, August 17th, starting at 9:00 AM. This is a great opportunity to discuss activity in the City of Colusa, and to meet your City Police Officers.

6. Give BloodDonate blood and help save a life at this year’s Colusa Community Blood Drive. The drive will be held from 2PM to 6PM on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church, 4th & Jay Street in Colusa. For an appointment call Lyn Clark at (530) 458-4920. Participants will earn MyBloodSource Rewards to redeem online. Participants are asked to eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to giving blood and must weigh a minimum of 110 lbs. and must be in overall good health. If you have a Donor Card, remember to bring it with your photo ID. Minimum

age to give blood is 17 years-old or younger with parental consent. The blood drive is hosted by BloodSource.

7. Colusa Senior SwimThe Colusa City Pool has begun offering Senior Swim, Monday through Friday from NOON to 1:00 PM. The cost is $1 per day, for seniors aged 55 or older and available until the pool closes for the summer. Senior Swim is made possible by the City of Colusa, Jenny Lay and Mike Acosta. 8. Colusa County Rugby Football Club Luau 2015

The Colusa County Rugby Football Club will host its annual Luau on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 6PM to 12 AM at the Colusa VFW Hall (Bridge & E. Main Street) in Colusa. Come celebrate with the CCRFC, 2015 USA Rugby Pacific North Champions and 2015 California Cup State Champions. The cost is $50 a person – includes: a Hawaiian dinner, entertainment and more. A raffle and auction will also be available. All proceeds will benefit the CCRFC, a 501 (c)(3). For tickets see Tina Beckley at Tri Counties Bank in Colusa or call: Cody Beckley (530) 216-7504. 9. Colusa Community 4H Meeting

The Colusa 4H Club will hold their first community/project meeting on Monday, August 31st, at 7:00 pm, at St. Bernadette’s Hall, 745 Ware Avenue, in Colusa. All returning members and their parents are urged to attend – in addition to all project leaders. New members are always welcome. The group will discuss how Colusa 4-H will run this coming year, and break out into project groups. The community/project meeting will count as a project and community meeting. 10. Colusa Adult CanteenThe Colusa Ault Canteen is a bi-monthly luncheon held every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, from NOON to 1:30 PM. The Adult Canteen is open to all Seniors, 60 years of age or older and held at the United Methodist Church’s, Friendship Hall, 511 Oak Street, in Colusa. Come enjoy an event just for the seniors in our community – promoting an active lifestyle and an opportunity to socialize with friends and discuss topics over a Pot Luck style lunch with the main course being provided.
