A Bengali-language article of Jerome D'Costa on the life and achievements of William Carey, the greatest Protestant missionary in India. It also tells how from being an Anglican cobbler he turned into a Baptist missionary in Bengal writing, getting books translated in vernaculars and publishing them in different Indian languages. He worked as a pioneer in the development of modern Bengali prose writing. He was also a founder of modern schools for ordinary children and worked as a social reformer.
