We lament the sudden passing of Don Boles last Monday. He and Carolyn
have been members of the North "A" congregation for about 35 years, and
Don shepherded this flock of God's people from February, 1991, until
September, 1996, and from November, 1998, until December, 2015. Back in
1995, Don was the third elder from the congregation to visit on a Sunday in Robert
Lee, where I was preaching at the time, and I was impressed with his Christlike
character from the very start. In time I learned that Don had played basketball in
college, had been a school teacher and a coach, and was a trusted, long-time
employee of Midland investor, Jack Wilkinson (the owner of the Wilco Building that
graces our city's skyline). More importantly, I came to appreciate Don's deep love
for Carolyn and their family, his sincere kindness, especially to the poor, and his
readiness to give of himself and his possessions for the good of any and all others.
It is his kindness that I likely will miss most. My hope is that at least some of Don's
kindness will linger in my own Christian character and my own Christian walk.
