A little bit about our New Members:

Jim Korducki: I was born and raised in Milwaukee but always wanted to live in the northwoods. When I received my physical therapy degree I moved initially to Wausau, then to Merrill in 2001. I have been employed as the Physical Therapist at Pine Crest Nursing Home since then, and love serving the residents of our GREAT nursing home. I am married to Michelle, with step children Jeremiah and Amanda. I LOVE to sing, everywhere I am. In addition I love to musky fish, and create and make fishing lures. I am thrilled and honored to be a member of CUMC. I have been a Christian of Faith seeking the right church for a long time. I believe I have found it. Thank you all for your caring and support. I look forward to knowing you all better in the years to come.

Harriet Pfuhl: Harriet and Floran have long been a part of us. She lives at Jenny Towers. You can often find Harriet sitting with her friends Jan Fredrickson and Marcia Henke.

Gary Pfuhl and Sue Sousek: Gary is Harriet’s son. He and Sue have been attending Christ church for about 6 months. They live in Merrill. Sue has found some much needed peace here after a year of great loss. Although they haven’t claimed a pew yet, you can find them in church most Sunday’s.!

Vacation Pastor David will be on vacation during the month of July. During that time, the pulpit will be filled by our very capable lay speakers. We are thankful for their willingness to share God’s message with us. Finances While many of us are away enjoying vacation time, please remember that the church still has expenses that must be met. If you are not going to be in church, it would be helpful if you could mail in your offering. That would help us to meet our obligations. Thank you.

I Care Fund The need is great, so our I Care Fund will again this month be used to buy school supplies for children through the Fill a Backpack, Fill a Need program.

Merrill: Christ Church and Wildwood Chapel will be saying good-bye to Rev. Angie Steinhauer, as she has been appointed to serve Darlington and Fayette UMC effective August 1st.

We are saddened to hear that Pastor Angie will be leaving us this summer. We have enjoyed the past two years of ministry together and her pastoral gifts within this congregation.

Wisconsin Conference - Circuit 9 Churches First UMC Mosinee UMC Wesley UMC Merrill: Christ & Wildwood Chapel UMC’s Rib Lake UMC Medford UMC Dorchester: Salem UMC Highland UMC (Rothschild) Rib Falls UMC

Mosinee UMC: Central Wisconsin was well-represented at Annual Conference. The youth delegates (18 and under) included Cassie Welch (left), Erick Hunter (far back with glasses), and Anna Hunter (just to left and behind Bishop Jung) from Mosinee UMC. Jordan Chartier from Christ UMC attended as a young adult (18-35) representative.

Mosinee UMC’s VBS this year is Outback Rock, set in Australia. This is a weekend format which starts Friday evening July 17 with dinner, meets Saturday morning including lunch, and wraps up at church Sunday July 19. All are welcome. For more information, contact Marcia Kohnert ([email protected] or 715-212-3147).

LifeTree Cafe for July 22 focuses on “How to Be True to Your Faith (without being a jerk).” Come to Mosinee UMC 6:30-7:30pm for an interesting discussion of how we talk about our faith in Christ to those who don’t share our belief. We’ll watch a short, thought-provoking video and then share our own thoughts and stories in small groups. Eileen Fox leads. Refreshments are available, and the evening is free. Contact [email protected] or call 715-693-2125 for more info.

Mosinee UMC hosts a bi-weekly Active Older Adults exercise group. All are welcome to this free, low-impact exercise program which meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9:00-10:00am. It’s lots of fun!

Wausau First: Vacation Bible School at First, Wausau, August 3-7. A traveling team from North Central College will be with us that week leading "G-Force" VBS from Cokesbury. This VBS will be held in the eve-nings, beginning with a light meal at 5:00 pm, then wrapping up at 8:00 pm. Bible teaching, music, games, and crafts. All are welcome. Sign up online at https://2015.cokesburyvbs.com/Wausau.

Starting in July, Circuit 9 is being replaced and reconfigured into three different circuits. As the conference has set about revitalizing the circuit ministry plan, in a program that they call Circuit Ministry 2.0, they have tried to cut back on travel time between circuit churches, which has meant increasing the number of circuits. The primary reason for this change is the goal of putting lay people in charge of circuit planning and organization. Lay people - who work other jobs during the day - are not as free as clergy to travel an hour for a circuit meeting.

Our new circuits are:

North Central District 2 (NC02): Mosinee, Rothschild Highland, Wausau First, Wausau New Life, and Wausau Wesley.

North Central District 3 (NC03): Antigo, Mattoon, Merrill Christ, and Wildwood Chapel

North Central District 4 (NC04): Dorchester Salem, Medford, Rib Falls, Rib Lake

But one thing to remember: United Methodists are never going to tell churches that they can't work together, and so even if the old Circuit 9 churches are divided up differently, we can still work to-gether in any way we choose. For instance, we will be having our annual Confirmation Wesleyan re-treat this winter, and every church is invited to be involved.

- -Christ Church News- - FINANCE TALK

As we enter the official beginning of summer, the Finance Committee continues to work on keeping you informed of the financial status of the church.

We as a congregation continue to have a shortfall of $1500-$1700 per month. The committee as a whole looked at this situation and had to make some of what I like to call, “band aid” fixes. A “band aid” fix is a short term fix but will not last over the long run. The com-mittee is also looking at what long term planning would look like for finances of the church. Here is what we are doing as a short term fix:

Although difficult, the committee has made a decision to temporarily suspend our Connec-tional Giving. Any specified gifts for “apportionment or Connectional Giving will still be for-warded to the Conference. Last year the committee made a commitment to give 70% our appropriation to Connectional Giving and the decision was made to increase that to 80% for this current year. Even though we have temporarily suspended this, we have every inten-tion of meeting this commitment.

In an effort to stay transparent with the congregation, we have posted in the Gathering Room, and have run with the announcements prior to church, our current obligations with the amount of our obligation. If you are interested and would like a hard copy of this, there are extra located in the Gathering Room on the bulletin board. Please help yourself.

Although this sounds like doom and gloom, we are confident we will get back on track. This congregation continues to do great things such as giving to the Imagine No Malaria campaign. We were able to exceed our goal of $1,000.00, not by a huge amount of money, but exceeding it none the less. These are small celebrations that we need to look at as positive and let them inspire us. The Finance Committee is asking that we all pray about the finances and particularly that you pray for direction. Finance is never an easy subject to talk about but we have received very positive feedback in keeping you all informed and up-to-date on where we as a church are financially. Some of us will be able to give just a small amount more (remember…every little bit extra helps) while some of us just can’t financially do that. That’s ok. We are asking for whatever help you can give, whether that be a slight increase in giving, giving an extra one time gift, or taking this to the Lord in prayer.

As always, if you have any feedback, please feel free to talk to any of the Finance Committee members.

A note from Pastor Angie

Grace and Peace to you my friends! This is my last article to you and it has been impossible to write! So much so, that I just don’t know what to say that hasn’t been said or felt or thought already. I baked my cookies and have started packing my things. And now I am getting to the time of saying good-bye. The Methodist Church has a system in place that moves pastors around, usually about every 5 years. Our time together has been shorter. But it has been rich. Rich in blessings. Rich in growth of our faith. Rich in relationship. That is part of what makes this so difficult. I am one of about 300 pastors that serve in the Wisconsin Annual Conference. As colleagues, we continue to learn what it means to be good to you, good to each other, and good to God. We all are sure that we are in this to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We are also sure that each of us has our own gifts, strengths, and passions. Together, we make up the body of Christ in this world - us and all of you and all that believe in Jesus. As I depart from Merrill and say my good-bye’s I will hold tight to the chapters of my story that have been written here. I will remember and I will thank God for you. I will take what I have learned from you as I enter another congregation. It is important for us to say good-bye. Saying good-bye well helps all of us to say hello well. It will help me to say hello to the parishioners of Darlington and Fayette and it will help you to say hello to the pastor that will serve here. When we get to the end of July I will say to you my final good-bye’s to you and to this time of being your pastor. This means that I will not come back to be in any pastoral role in this congregation, including weddings, funerals, and other life events. This saying good-bye gives the congregation the best chance to continue the momentum of being a healthy church. It also gives you the space to embrace and care for the new pastor as well as you cared for me. I am thankful for your embrace, for your care, and for the relationships that God has fostered in this place. God is working here and through the Cabinet and the Bishop to provide you with the gifts of pastoral leadership you need to take ministry to the next step. I trust the wisdom of the Cabinet and the years of dedication that they have to not only the process of finding the right fit, but also the commitment to supporting you and your leadership. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t stop and say “hi” if you find yourself in the Darlington area! If you decide to do that - I will be glad to see you. I will be your friend ‘down south’. You have been a blessing to my heart - for good! Blessings and love to each of you--Pastor Angie Psalm 147:10-11 His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; the Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.
