The markets are also at all time highs

As a percentage, margin debt isn’t “unreasonably” high It’s total value is higher because of

inflation/market value increases

Gradual trend Speculators believe the overall increase

since 1960 is the spike in Hedge Fund growth

Hedge funds have grown dramatically… The strategies they employ to smooth out and optimize their risk-adjusted returns involve more leverage than the rest of the market has traditionally used.

Mutual Funds, for example, are restricted in their use of leverage by law
