WILD AT HEART

Come and discover the secret of a man’s soul --- his masculine spirit! Deep in his heart, every man longs for a battle to fight, an adventure to live and a beauty to rescue. That is how he bears the image and likeness of God. Every boy wants to be a hero, wants to be powerful, wants to be dangerous! He wants to know whether he has “what it takes”, a question only a father can answer.

Join us as we explore the masculine spirit utilizing John Eldredge’s book, Wild at Heart, and the accompanying video series, A Band of Brothers. Enjoy a South African BBQ feast in a traditional Lapa. Awaken your masculine soul from its hibernation by traversing wooded trails and flowing creeks on ATVs. Feel the excitement as you take cover from enemy fire in a paint ball war. Experience your heart pounding as you squeeze the trigger on the trap and pistol shooting ranges.

THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG WITH THE MODERN MASCULINE SOUL AS IT HAS BEEN FORCED TO COMPLY WITH CONTEMPORARY CULTURE. IT IS TIME TO BEGIN HEALING THE TEARS IN THE FABRIC OF YOUR SOUL.

This is not your typical retreat, nor is this your typical message! A Man’s Weekend at the Shaque is derived from John Eldredge’s book, Wild at Heart (

). The premise of the book is that deep in every man’s heart he longs for a battle to fight, an adventure to live and a beauty to rescue. This is how he bears God’s image. This is what God made him to be. Over time this has been lost. What happened? What are the consequences of the modern man being tamed and made nice?

The retreat is to explore the ramifications of these issues in your masculine journey through a combination of intensive DVD presentations, casual group discussions, outdoor activities and great food.

The DVD series is broken up into 2 segments.

explores the following: 1) The Heart of a Man; 2) The Poser; 3) The Wound; 4) Healing the Wound.

explores: 1) A Battle to Fight; 2) A Beauty To Rescue; 3) An Adventure To Live; 4) A Band of Brothers.

Groups of men are encouraged to attend together (a small group at church would be an example) as this eases discussion. However, this is not a prerequisite, independent registration is welcomed. :

The 24 hours is packed with action starting promptlyat 4:30 PM on Friday and ending around 4 PM on Saturday. Registration begins at 4 PM on Friday. Some activities that you will enjoy are:

- dinner in the Lapa, South African style BBQ - pistol and rifle shooting - hatchet and knife throwing - video sessions in large group format - fireside discussion at night - paint ball activities - zip line riding - 4-wheeler trail riding

The accommodations are bunk-style with dinner served Friday night and breakfast and lunch served on Saturday. Men will be required to sign an indemnity form before participating in the activities.
