Observations and trends over the last 11 years1. HIV prevalence in women has increased to nearly

1 in 5 women having HIV

2. HIV prevalence in the youth 15 -24 is declining

3. The adult working population has the highest prevalence of HIV

4. Overall the percentage of the population with HIV 1 in 10 and increased over 11 years.

5. The number of people living with HIV is 5.26 million - 31.5% more than 2002

6. New incidence new adult infection has declined from 1.26 of the population to .85%

7. New HIV infections per day down from 1600 to1233 per day - still half a million a year !

8. AIDS deaths down from 345 000 to 178 000 per year - possibly anti - retro virals
