Despite London being infamous for the fact that it is an expensive city, it is still one of the most favoured tourist destinations of the world with millions of people from all over the world dreaming of being able to spend a few days in the city, seeing its various attractions and witnessing one of Shakespeare’s plays. Even though all these people are not able to make it to the city, millions of tourists and business travellers actually come to the city every year. So, what is it that draws so many people from across the globe to this vast metropolis? Surely by now, everyone knows that its streets are not laid with gold!

Tourist Attractions in Central London

One of the main reasons why people like to visit London is that it has a plethora of historic monuments, important landmarks, technological wonders, museums, art galleries, art galleries, and other attractions. Troops from the Brigade of Guards, the Monarch's personal bodyguard, take part in the ceremony. The London Eye is London's newest attraction and now one of its most popular. It offers the visitor a new perspective on a great city with London's famous streets, churches, palaces and monuments appearing in a panoramic view.

London offers a wide range of dramas in a plethora of theatres that are mostly located in the West End area. During the summer, the Globe Theatre stages productions of Shakespeare’s most famous works. Visitors have a wide choice as there are hundreds of theatres offering dramas and famous musicals.

Museums – Mostly Free!

London has about 300 museums and most of them are government aided and hence free for entry. The most important is British Museum that holds a vast collection of treasures from across the globe. The Victoria and Albert Museum is another large museum that is home to decorative arts of the world ranging from Japanese fans to illustrations by Beatrix Potter. The National Portrait Gallery is where you can see classical and historic

London’s Pub Culture

London is home to just about every type of pub from dimly lit, wooden pubs to gorgeous Victorian arcades with elaborate décor and upscale cocktail lounges. There is a plethora of pubs in and around Covent Garden and the West End.

The Thames

The stately River Thames is believed to have been the life-line of the city and over a period of time several bridges have been built along the river including London Bridge, Tower Bridge and others. The river is an important transportation source for carrying cargo from the city to the sea en-route to other places of the world. The attractions near the river include Kew Palace, Hampton Court, the Greenwich Royal Naval College and the Greenwich Observatory located in the college. The National Theatre and the London Eye are the latest attractions overlooking the Thames.

Famous Markets

London is home to many markets that cater to the needs of just about everybody. Many markets offer locally sourced products. The most famous markets include Borough Market, Camden Market and Portobello Road Market.

Restaurants of All Types

London is a cosmopolitan city with people from different countries staying here. Over time, they have established restaurants that serve almost all cuisines of the world. These include Chinese, South Asian including Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi, Mexican, Arabic, Italian, French, Japanese, Thai and Continental.
