Using sources

Remember:

Nature - what is the source? A photo, a diary, a novel etc?

Origin - where has the source come from? Who wrote it? Where? When?

Purpose - why was the source produced?

Using sources

As a group read pages 21-24Every time you reach a source work together to fill in your

own copy of the sources grid, no one moves on until everyone in the group is finished so help each other understand!

If the sources are featured in an ‘activity’ discuss the activity AFTER you have all completed the grid and write a few lines on the A3 sheet detailing the groups answer to the question (bullet points/notes format ok)

If you finish before other groups go to the websites listed at the bottom of the grid and see if you can additional sources to the grid.

Your task

Write a newspaper article covering the Palestinian exodus of 1948,

Your article should be written from a specific perspective: decide which type of paper you are going to be writing for and when you are writing (during, immediately after or longer term?

The article needs to cover the events and the causes of the exodus

You will want to include quotes: the sheet and the book should provide some useful material.

Using sources

For each source fill in the grid provided

We will then divide into two groups: one group will argue that the Palestinian refugee problem was caused by the actions of Israel/the Jews, the other will argue the problem was caused by Arab actions.

It will be important to vote for a ‘leader’

Points will be scored as detailed on the next slide….

particularly those that draw on highly specific evidence!Your team will lose points for:Over -relying on a few team membersHesitation or unconvincing arguments/replies!

In the end there will be individual merits on offer

AND a team merit.

Or, using sources

Split into pairs. You are going to create a ‘podcast’ of a conversation between two students about the reasons for the Palestinian exodus in 1948/49

The conversation should be clear, interesting and witty, whilst making sure it covers the main ideas as to why the exodus happened.

It should be 3 minutes approx. You will have 1 class and a homework to do this, you

should script it in class and then record it for homework (as you will need a quiet place)

When it is done you will need to submit your effort via Studywiz so that we can also enjoy and learn from your work.

What MUST be in the pod cast?

The different views of why most Palestinians left Israel during the 48/49 war

It needs to be interesting and memorable
