Why be a Disciple ofJesus?I Pet. 2:21-25

We want everyone atO’Neal to be a Christian!

In the Bible we read:

What would we have to doand say to get you to obey God?

1 Peter 2:21-25

• 21 For even hereunto were ye called:

•1. Because Christ also suffered for us,

•2. Leaving us an example,

•3. That ye should follow his steps:

• 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

What the Lord has done for us..

• 2. We were sinners..when God commended his love to us Rom. 5:8,9

• 3. We know it was his blood that was shed for us to be saved.

• I Pet. 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

• 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

• What can wash away my sins, nothing but the Blood of Jesus!

Leaving us an example, Telling you what the Lord did..

• would that cause you to want to become a Christian?

• Jesus is the perfect example to follow.. Heb. 12:1-2• I Cor. 11:1 ‘Be ye followers of me, even as I also am

of Christ• Gal. 6:14 ..save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.• Many good men mentioned in the Bible.

• 1. Abraham. Gen. 12:1-3; Gen. 22:1ff

• 2. Moses. Num.12:3. Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all men that were on the face of the earth

• 3. Joshua. Joshua 24:15 As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

That we should follow his stepsHeb. 12:1-2

• Telling you He is the ONE to follow..• .• 1. Matt. 4:1-11 To be tempted of the devil. “It

is written”• 2. To be ridiculed…mocked. “If thou be the

Son of God…….No if about it…He is and was and shall always be!.Mtt.17:1-5

• 3. To be forsaken by his own chosen• Disciples. “All forsook him.” Mark 14:50• And they all forsook him, and fled.

•He is our example…We can TRUST HIM!

What Christ tells us…

• 1. To flee sin. I John 2:1-2 Quit it! Hate it!• 2. To help others. Gal. 6:10 • “Ladies Bible Class…• the small classes…sending get well cards

to those who are sick for a long time…• Matt. 25:31-46 • 3. To be kind and good. Eph. 4:32• 4. To be a worker for the Lord. John 9:4.•

He did NO sin!

• Not one sin’…ever!.

• Neither was guile found in his mouth….

• One version says, “any deceit”.. He

• was always truthful, and spoke only the

• Truth. John 8:32; John 17:20,21; Prov. 23:23

Every day should bring us closer to our Lord…

brother. Gen. 4:8.• 3. Not Bad…. Like the Pharisee in Luke 18:14• 4. Not Sad. .When you reject Jesus, you will

always leave Sad. Rich young ruler..Matt. 19:22

Come as you are, but don’t leave like you came!

Here is what you have to doto become a Disciple of Christ

•Hear the Word of God.

• Romans 10:17

•Believe that Jesus is the

Christ, the Son of God. John 8:24

•Repent. Turn, make a change for

the Lord.. Acts 17:30,31

•Confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God! Mtt. 10:32,33

•Be Baptized. Acts 22:16

• I Pet. 3:21

• Acts 18:8 Like the Corinthians

• Acts 2:38-41 Like the people on Pentecost

• Acts 8:36-39 Like the Eunuch

• Live faithfully, serving the Lord.

• Rev. 2:10

• I Cor. 15:58

1 Kings 18:21 “And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.”

Why not Now become aDisciple of Christ!
