Why are Many Not Saved?

Each day people die lost.◦To be lost is to be alienated from God.

“They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might” (2 Thess 1:9, ESV).

◦To be lost is to have no hope. “You were at that time separated from Christ,

alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world” (Eph 2:12, ESV).

Sadly, most people die lost.◦“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is

wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few” (Matt 7:13-14, ESV).

Why do so many people die lost?

Page 4: Why are many not saved

THEY DO NOT BELIEVE THEY ARE LOST.

Page 5: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

Many believe that they are too good to be lost.

Some believe that God will save everyone.◦Of course, that’s not the case.◦“These will go away into eternal punishment,

but the righteous into eternal life” (Matt 25:46, ESV).

Page 6: Why are many not saved

THEY DO NOT BELIEVE.

Page 7: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

Satan will come & snatch the seed.◦“The ones along the path are those who have

heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved” (Lk 8:12, ESV).

Some are too sophisticated to believe. There can be no hope for the one who does

not believe.◦“I told you that you would die in your sins, for

unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins” (Jn 8:24, ESV).

◦“Without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Heb 11:6, ESV).

Page 8: Why are many not saved

THEY TRUST IN FAITH ONLY.

Page 9: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

Many individuals believe that faith alone will save them.

But, Scripture teaches that more than faith is necessary for salvation.◦“You see that a person is justified by works and not by

faith alone. . . . As the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead” (Js 2:24, 26, ESV).

Noah was saved from the Flood because he acted in faith (Heb 11:7).

One must obey in order to be saved.◦“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter

the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven” (Matt 7:21, ESV).

Many individuals believe that faith alone will save them.

But, Scripture teaches that more than faith is necessary for salvation.◦“You see that a person is justified by works and

Noah was saved from the Flood because he acted in faith (Heb 11:7).

One must obey in order to be saved.◦“Being made perfect, he became the source of

eternal salvation to all who obey him” (Heb 5:9, ESV).

THEY LOVE SIN

Page 12: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

Sin is pleasurable.◦Were sin not pleasurable, people would not

commit sin.◦Moses chose “to be mistreated with the people

of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin” (Heb 11:25, ESV).

Some people love sin.◦“This is the judgment: the light has come into

the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil” (Jn 3:19, ESV).

◦“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 Jn 2:15, ESV).

Page 13: Why are many not saved

THEY LOVE HUMAN PRAISE.

Page 14: Why are many not saved

“Many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God” (Jn 12:42-43, ESV).

One cannot love human praise & be a Christian.

Page 15: Why are many not saved

THEY HAVE BEEN BLINDED

Page 16: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

If one does not love the truth, God will blind his/her eyes.◦“They refused to love the truth and so be

saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness” (2 Thess 2:10-12, ESV).

◦“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Cor 4:4, ESV).

Page 17: Why are many not saved

THEY HAVE BECOME UNFAITHFUL.

Page 18: Why are many not saved

One who is a child of God can fall from grace.◦“You are severed from Christ, you who would

be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace” (Gal 5:4, ESV).

If we fail to add the Christian virtues to our lives, we will fall.◦2 Pet 1:5-10.

Page 19: Why are many not saved

THEY WILL NOT READ & STUDY THE SCRIPTURES.

Page 20: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

Unless one reads & investigates the Bible, he cannot be saved.◦The Scriptures testify of Jesus.

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me” (Jn 5:39, ESV).

◦“Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so” (Acts 17:11, ESV).

Page 21: Why are many not saved

THEY WANT TO BE THEIR OWN GOD.

Page 22: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

So many want to make up their own rules for life.◦“I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not

in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps” (Jer 10:23, ESV).

◦Many want to come to the Lord on their terms, not his.

◦Jesus sought the Father’s will, not his own. “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and

my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me” (Jn 5:30, ESV).

“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done” (Lk 22:42, ESV).

Page 23: Why are many not saved

THEY TRUST IN FEELINGS TO ASSURE THEM OF SALVATION.

Page 24: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

Many believe the wonderful feeling they have will save them.

But, feelings cannot be a safe guide.◦“There is a way that seems right to a man,

but its end is the way to death” (Prov 14:12, ESV).

◦Paul thought he had to persecute Christians (Acts 26:9).

◦Paul to the Sanhedrin: “Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day” (Acts 23:1, ESV).

Page 25: Why are many not saved

MANY WILL NOT GIVE UP THE RELIGION OF THEIR PARENTS.

Page 26: Why are many not saved

Why are Many Not Saved?

Many believe that the religion of parents should be followed even after learning better.

If one is true to God, he may need to give up the religion of his parents.◦“If anyone comes to me and does not hate his

own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple” (Lk 14:26, ESV).

◦“Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house—for I have five brothers —so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment” (Lk 16:27-28, ESV).

Page 27: Why are many not saved

THERE ARE MANY WHO DIE LOST.

But, there is no good reason to die lost.
