Our life-long dream has been to create a clothing company inspired by life’s great moments--the ones spent by the water or in the mountains, around a bonfire, catching waves, skiing fresh powder, or watching sunrises and sunsets. We paid our dues—Mike in design at Ralph Lauren (RRL Brand) and Alex in finance (Private Equity)—to gain the necessary experience to create the brand we always wanted. A brand that blends our love of timeless outdoor moments with our passion for designing and crafting the highest quality clothing. With an appreciation for sustainable manufacturing, we develop each fabric, pattern, and style from scratch so that each piece has a unique texture, soft hand-feel, and lived-in quality. From Native American weavings to Japanese indigo dye processes, the brand draws its inspiration and techniques from global cultures and traditions, resulting in premium clothing that survives the changing seasons.

OUR STORY

Delivery 1: Nantucket, July6/1-6/30 Ship Window

This first delivery is designed for our summer in Nantucket. Located in the middle of the ocean, 115 miles off the coast of Boston, the weather here never gets too hot or too cold. The days are spent surfing at Nobadeer Beach and drinking crafted beers at Cisco Brewery while listening to local bluegrass bands. In the early evenings, we head to our store in town at 2 Candle Street and then walk to dinner at the Straight Wharf to hang with our friend, Tim Farley, who has bartended there for the past decade. The vibe of Nantucket is both classic and laidback with hints of an understated surf culture subsiding in some of the best waves on the East Coast. This delivery features our lightest weight woven shirts in dusty, sun-washed colors and incredibly soft hand-feels. The mainstay of the delivery is our core indigo and garment dyed slub cotton programs in t-shirts and polos, which pair perfectly with our summer weight cotton/linen shorts. For days at the beach and beyond, our signature all-day shorts and sustainably made boardshorts are best-sellers.

I started my career at Ralph Lauren in 2005 after graduating from Washington University in St. Louis where I majored in fashion design and was captain of the Men’s Varsity Basketball team. I spent my career there as a shirt designer before leaving in 2011 to found Faherty. At Ralph Lauren, I designed everything from the rugged aesthetic of RRL to the refined class of Polo Brand. I worked closely with all our fabric mills, designing each pattern and fabric all the way from construction to each finished product.

Delivery 2: Malibu, August7/1-7/30 Ship Window

In August, we travel out west to visit our store at the Country Mart on PCH and to hang in Malibu, the ultimate California beach town. The Pacific Ocean has finally warmed up, so we spend the mornings surfing off the pier or driving up the coast to C Street in Ventura, CA if a swell brews. Since the 1950s Malibu has been a center of surf culture here in the U.S. and today you continue to get flashbacks of the past, as guys cruise down the line on vintage longboards. Our beautiful plaid and check layouts in sunwashed blue, green, and red serve as the foundation of this collection. Because cool mornings and evenings anchor the dog days of summer, lightweight wovens are a proven necessity. The incredibly soft and light hand-feel of our wovens can handle 80+ degree temperature, but also seamlessly transition to dinner on the pier at Malibu Farms. The unique character of our lightweight indigo knit program fuses well with the colorful wovens and complements the introduction of our buttery soft heather knits. As fall begins to show life, we offer light outerwear in our signature serape bajas and long sleeve knitwear to beat the chill of those cooler mornings and evenings.

Delivery 3: Montauk, September8/1-8/30 Ship Window

In September, as summer crowds clear, we drive to Montauk for long weekends out of the city. We hole up in our friend’s surf bungalow crammed with vintage Navajo weavings, beat up Turkish rugs, and old surfboards. In the mornings, we walk with our coffee to Ditch Plains and surf in the still warm water without wetsuits. Post surf, we sit outside Joni’s for some fresh eggs and juice and then swing by Bob Mellet’s vintage store in search of vintage blankets, 1940s workwear, and antique indigo swatches. Early evenings are spent surfing at the cliffs near Montauk Point Light House which, as the eastern most point of New York, guarantees consistent swells. As dusk hits, we make a bonfire, layering up in our vintage inspired outerwear and serape blankets. The comings of autumn inspire our dusty, yet saturated plaids--a mix of lighter weight checks, classic flannels, and our reversible shirts. Our indigo knitwear in shades of blue and black have a weathered look and layer great with our signature Aztec jacket and indigo knitted Neskowin baja poncho. Alex started his career in investment banking after graduating from Yale University. He then moved onto Cerberus Capital where he was a private equity investor, focused on buying companies and turning them around through operational

Our process to create this special fabric begins by selecting the finest long staple heathered yarns. Delivery 4: Pacific Northwest, October9/1-9/30 Ship Window

Our fourth drop is inspired by one of the ultimate locations to experience autumn in all of its glory. Never more than a few hours from the ocean or the mountains, the Pacific Northwest offers ski, surf and city life all in 24 hours. We wake up at the Ace Hotel in Portland, walk through downtown, and then end at dinner at Clyde Common followed by drinks at White Owl Social Club. The next morning, we head to Seaside Beach to catch a dawn patrol surf followed by coffee and fresh baked good at Sea Level coffee in Cannon Beach. By 9:30am, we’re back on the road to Mount Hood (where you can ski all year round) for some afternoon powder and après. In this delivery, weights get heavier and colors turn deeper as cooler temperatures take reign. Our flannel shirts continue to be a mainstay of the collection and are accompanied by our long sleeve heathered and duofold knits. We expand to add luxury sweaters in cotton, wool, and cashmere blends along with light outerwear to battle dropping temperatures.

Come November we head home for the holidays to spend Thanksgiving with the family, finalize our Spring designs and help out at our SoHo NYC store. We spend long days at the office to perfect new designs and prepare for the hectic holiday shopping season ahead. Nights are spent visiting our favorite neighborhood restaurants including Blue Ribbon on Sullivan, Rosemary’s on Greenwich Ave, and Aquagrill on Spring Street. Weekend getaways keep us sane, relaxing at our family home on the shore in New Jersey or visiting a friend’s cabin in the Berkshires. A New York city winter means layers, darker colors, and thicker outerwear as weather turns freezing at a moment’s notice. Here we introduce chunkier flannels, wool and cashmere blend sweaters, and heavier outerwear like down jackets and vests. Layering is key in this delivery, and we continue to offer our heather and duofold knitwear as the finest layer option.
