A major part of this assembly is inducting school and sports leaders into their new leadership positions. We would like to invite our school families to attend the Whole School Assembly at 9:30 am in the school hall to acknowledge all the 2019 leaders together. From the Principal’s Desk Our welcome BBQ What a stunning evening last Wednesday evening was. Thank you, to all parents and staff, who came together to meet and share in the beginning of the school year. Feedback from everyone was just so positive. And of course a big thank you to both the Lions Club who did our BBQ and some of our fabulous teaching staff/musicians who provided entertainment! Classroom visits My visits last week to classrooms included Dylan Harry’s 5/6 Aqua class and Lisa Matthew’s Kinder Jade class. In Dylan’s class they were completing their daily 5, in literacy. I spent time talking to students about their writing (exceptional use of descriptive words!), and listening to some students read aloud. Their work and the level of motivation were outstanding. Kindy was no less impressive as Lisa provided students with ‘choices’ in deciding on where they would like to do an activity, and with who. The choices being made, and the level of sharing/dialogue between students, was wonderful. (And this is only 2 weeks into the Kindy program!) Yours in partnership Graeme Ross, Principal Library Plastic Bags for library As supermarkets no longer give out single use plastic bags, we don't have a supply for students to use for borrowing. If you have spare plastic bags of any type we would love a donation of them please. Carole McFaul & Renee Buckley, Library Volunteers Do you volunteer at Bellingen Public School? All volunteers need to complete a Volunteer application together with appropritate volunteer appendicies and provide 100 points of identification. A Working With Children check is only required for overnight excursions or if you do not have a student relative at this school. All volunteers need to sign in at the office or other designated sign on site. Applications need to be updated annually. Please see the office for more information.

NSW Bus Safety Week – 18th to 24th February. Over 1 million students in NSW travel to & from school each day, many by bus. In the last five years, three children were tragically killed after alighting form a bus and being struck by another vehicle. NSW Bus Safety Week runs from 18-24 February 2019 to highlight the importance of bus-related safety issues for all road users. It is part of the Be Bus Aware campaign which aims to improve awareness for how all road users can keep safe on & around buses. Tips for keeping safe around buses: Adults – always hold your child’s hand when crossing the road. Meet your child at the school or the bus stop – NEVER wait on the opposite site of the road and call them across. Wait until the bus has gone then use a safe place to cross the road. Supervise your child walking to & from the bus & crossing the road until they are at least 10. Drivers – slow down to 40km/h when the bus lights are flashing. Visit www.BeBusAware.com.au to find out more.

As part of this year’s Nationwide clean up ENJO Australia is proud to officially throw in our support. We have been allocated 26 official sites Australia-wide. Lucky for us one of these is at beautiful Diggers Beach Coffs Harbour on Sunday 3rd March from 8am – 10am. We have teamed up with Landcare Coffs Harbour to clean up the beach and dunes.
