Who would be the audience for your media product? REFORMERS are people who define themselves by their self-esteem and self-fulfilment, as my genre is soul/ r&b the combined to is often known as neo-soul through research I learnt that reformers are the type of people that appeal to this genre most. The neo soul target audience can be classed as the strivers they are the low resources group of those who are motivated by achievements. they have values very similar to achiever but have fewer incomes social and psychological resources. style is extremely important to them as they strive to emulate people they admire. R&B audiences are usually teenagers and young adults between the ages of 13 to 25 and are mostly females. This may possibly be because of explicit lyrics, and how the music videos are shot and what they present. On the contrary, soul audiences have a much wider audience (ages 25+, I would just like to make a note that 45+ are less likely to read a music magazine as stereotypically they know less of about music due to the advancement in technology such as social media and due to this I will not be targeting my magazine at the 45+ age group) due to the fact that blues and soul comes from African America in the 1950's. In fact, R&B fans are usually from an African American black background due to R&B being rhythm and blues. I combined the two because neo- soul is extremely popular I wanted my magazine to appeal to more people. Females are typically targeted by R&B artists since they stereo typically write songs about love, and heartbreak these type of songs will appeal to teenage girls and young adults as it usually relates to them. Fast R&B songs usually will attract to women as they involve fashion and synergy within the narrative or theme. Male R&B artists usually target a female audience because the male artists are portrayed as sexy or in a sexual way through their lyrics and nudity. The female audience will find this attractive and appealing because they will be physically attracted to the artist. So I’m mainly going to be targeting the female audience due to this.
