Who would be the audience for

your media product?

Target age range of audience:

16-20The target age range for my audience is 16-20 however it would be very unreliable to say for sure this age range will be more likely to read it than other age groups as the content within my magazine appeals to a wide age range. The magazine is more inclined to be read by 16-20 year olds as the language and terminology used would appeal more to them than any other age group.

With the rapid growth of technology and hand held gadgets, people of all ages are using devices to make their life easier and more connected with other aspects of their life such as social networking, shopping, information etc. This audience would most likely use the following:- Computer/Laptop- Smart phone- Tablet computers- Games console (Hand held devices, PS4, XBOX)They would use these devices nearly all day – mainly phones and laptops. I can use this to advertise, promote, research and market my music magazine all from one place. Online marketing is also the most effective and cost saving method of selling a product as you can reach an international market as well as a national one.

Digital technology the audience would use:

Social networking This audience would also have a social life online at places such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, Instagram, Online dating websites (EHarmony, Match.com etc.) They would use all of these features on their smart phone/Tablet and computers. They would use Facebook more than texting and Whatsapp has been said to be used more to Instant message than texting. I can use the social networking websites to target and gain further information on my target audience, this will save time and money as it can be done from a computer within a few hours.

My target audience would be more likely to have an Instagram account, they would post images of them selves, their day out, friends, shopping etc.

Twitter is an increasingly used website which my target audience would also be very likely to use it. They would ‘Tweet’ about their lives and use it to follow celebrities or their friends. Many businesses are starting to create Twitter accounts to keep a closer relationship with customers. This is something I can do to find out more about my target market.

Facebook is currently the most widely used social networking site, children, adults, companies even pets! Use it. Companies use Facebook for advertisement, promoting their products as well as creating pages to interact with new customers as well as entice new ones. I created a Facebook page where I added a few class peers and created posts to see what responses I received.

Likes/Dislikes of Target audienceLikes:- Going out (Parties, cinema, shopping etc.)- Playing games - Watching TV- Listening to Music- Buying superficial items- Finding out about celebrities lifestyle - Keeping up with fashion trends

Dislikes: - Staying home - Going to school- Being board- Working a lot - Lack of freedom

This information is based on asking a sample of 20 people within the age groups of 16-20 all living in the UK.

Mind set • Hedonists – This audience wants to

have fun all the time and ensure maximum pleasure as much as they can, they do this in many ways; partying, drinking and doing drugs.

• Materialistic – This group would also me more materialistic than any other group as they wouldn't’t know the full value of money as they wouldn't’t have much financial problems; they would be living at home so the money they do get they would spend on trivial stuff such as designer clothing, cigarettes, alcohol etc.

Reader Profile

Education: This group would be either at A levels, University or an apprenticeship. At this stage they would have slight indication of what they want to do later on, career wise.

Financial position: Not likely to be in a full time job, use money for clothes, going out, travel, games, music etc.

Relationship status: Either have a boy/girl friend – not in a serious relationship, no intention of getting married.

Living situation: Most likely with parents or renting an apartment. Not yet home owners.

Hobbies: This audience would be interested in sports such as football, rugby and cycling mainly as these are the most popular British sports. They would also be interested in activities such as shopping, going out to places like the cinema, pub, club, mall, gym and holidays.

Interests: They would be interested in more superficial activities than any thing else, such as TV programmes, music, concerts, new movies, celebrity lives and latest fashion trends.

Buying habits: As this age group wouldn't have large amounts of money due to a lack of a full time/high earning job they would rely more on parents to buy the important items such as food, school uniform, books etc. Their own money would be used for more luxury items such as games, travel, clothes and unneeded items.

I found this information out by conducting secondary market research through other magazine, online surveys/questionnaires. I also used previous data which I collected from my preliminary task. I then summarised the information have placed it in categories to create a full reader profile which is specific to my music magazine.

I also used websites such as Wiki Answer and previous
