CS Lewis Birth & Childhood
Clive Staples Lewis was born on November 29th 1898 in Belfast
Ireland.
From 1914-16 CS Lewis went to a private school for English.
He was awarded a scholarship for Oxford Unversity in December
1916.
The Writing of Narnia
CS Lewis started writing the books for Narnia in 1950. He wrote 7 books called:Book 1 - The Magician’s Nephew (1955)
Book 2 - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950)
Book 3 - The Horse and His Boy (1954)Book 4 - Prince Caspian (1951)
Book 5 - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1952)
Book 6 - The Silver Chair (1953)Book 7 - The Last Battle (1956).
CS Lewis started writing all the chronicles in 1939 but he didn’t finish the books until 1954. All 3 of the books have been made
into films.
What Year did CS Lewis meet JJR Tolkien?
CS Lewis meet JJR Tolkien in the year of 1926
On 11th May.
Where did they meet?They regularly met in a pub called the Eagle and Child in Oxford. They were part of a group of writers called the Inklings who meet every Tuesday
morning.

CS Lewis and his faith
Lewis converted to Christianity in 1931, following a late night talk with his friends JJR Tolkien and
Hugo Dyson.
He records making a specific commitment to Christian belief while on his way to the zoo with
his brother. He became a member of the Church of England –
somewhat to the disappointment of Tolkien, who had hoped that he
would join the Catholic Church.
Death and Illness
On the 15th July 1963, CS Lewis fell ill and went to hospital.
The next day he suffered a heart attack at 5pm and went into a
coma. He woke up the next day at 2pm.
He was released from hospital but his health continued to decline
until he was diagnosed with renal failure.
On the 22nd of November 1963 He collapsed at home and died a few
minutes later. This was exactly one week before his 65th birthday.
Burial and Legacy
He is buried in Headington Oxford near Warrie his brother in Holy
Trinity Church.His legacy remains and people
can watch and read the books of Narnia and visit his grave in
Oxford.
