Who Was Arius?

Hi again Mike (and Sandi)

Just a really quick question if that's ok? I was accused the other day of being an "Arianist." I

confessed I had no idea what they were talking about. After doing a brief Wikipedia search

found that Arius believed that Christ was not an eternal being but rather a created being. This

is of course what I believe the scriptures teach on the God-head (Revelation 3.14, Colossians1.14) Christ is the "first-born" of all creation etc. It seems the Jehovah's Witness people hold to

this doctrine as well?

Have you ever had this criticism levelled at yourself, Mike, and what do you know of Arius? I

read at Wiki that he was branded a herectic by the first Nicene council.

Thanks for any help you can provide Mike.

Cheers

Hi B____,

Oh, yes, I know who Arius is. Arius was a Catholic Bishop who could read what the scriptures

say about Christ's relationship with His Father. He was condemned as a heretic by the Council

of Nicea in 325 A.D.

Yes, I have been called an Arian on more than one occasion in e-mails. Arius's teaching andhis doctrine concerning Christ's relationship to His Father is the doctrine of all the apostles.

Just look at this verse of scripture:

1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him;

and [besides this "one God, the Father of whom are all things" there is also] one Lord Jesus

Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

In this same epistle, just three chapters later we read:

1Co 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of

the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

And then to reinforce 1 Corinthians 8:6 Paul make this statement which again places Christ as

subservient to His Father:

1Co 11:12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all

things of God.

"Of God?" Of what God? Paul, and all of God's Word teaches that all things are of the God of

Jesus Christ:

2Co 11:31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore,

knoweth that I lie not.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us

with all spiritual blessings in heavenly [places] in Christ:

Eph 4:4 [There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

There is but "one Lord." But that Lord is not above the "One God and Father of all, who is

above all."

1Pe 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his

abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ

from the dead,

Nowhere in scripture is Christ ever called the God and Father of God the Father. There can be

but one "Father of spirits," and that "Father of spirits... [is the] one God and Father of all."

Heb 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave

them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and

live

That Christ worshiped His God and Father is here stated in four different verses. But there are

many more scriptures which talk about God the Father being the head of Christ, even long

after Christ's resurrection, and there are many more which mention Christ as "Lord" but they

go one to say that "all things are of God."

The very fact that Babylon considers this doctrine to be central to all of their other doctrines

should give any spiritually minded person pause. The doctrine of the trinity keeps all of its

adherents from knowing God or Christ, and here is just how important that fact is:

Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal , that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus

Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Once again we have "the only true God" and besides that "only true God" there is also "Jesus

Christ" who the "only true God "has sent."

Scripture is clear, but Babylon has never allowed that to affect their doctrines.

I don't know any more about Arius other than the fact that he did believe that Christ was

created by the Father and the Christ was the first thing the Father created and through Christ

all else was created. In other words Arius understood clearly that Christ did preexist.

I hope this is of some help to you. Don't let degrees of friendships or any other pressure keep

you from trying every spirit against the word of God.

1Jn 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:

because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Your brother in Christ,

Mike
