QUESTION OF THE WEEK Who in our world do I fail to see who is in need of assistance and compassion? This week, will I take the time and make the effort to see God in their faces? While there are many ways to donate to the Annual Appeal, there is one option unique to people who are 70 1/2 or over and have an IRA. If you are in this category, the IRS requires you to take a require minimum distribution from your IRA each year. As a result, this distribution is added to your tax- able income and increases the amount of taxes owed to the government. However, instead of taking your required mini- mum distribution, you can instruct your IRA investment manager to donate this distribution to charity such as the Bishop’s Annual Appeal and this automatically omits this amount from your adjusted gross income. This tax benefit can be realized by all qualifying individuals, whether you take the standard deduction or itemize your deductions. This can be a significant benefit to you and a great way to support the work of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. For more information, call the Bishop’s Annual Appeal office at 973- 777-8818, ext. 218. If you are considering making a charita- ble donation using your IRA required minimum distribution, please be sure to first discuss this with your financial or tax advisor to make sure it is right for you. HELP KEEP SOMEONE WARM THIS WINTER!!!

Our sixth grade PREP class will be hosting a coat drive during the month of October to

benefit the Father English Center Clothing Boutique in Paterson. The center distributes tokens to

families in need, based on family size. The families redeem these tokens in exchange for the coats. This ensures a fair

and equal distribution of the coats. Please bring any gently used or new coats to the St. John Vianney Church basement

or to the St. Thomas Church Social Hall, now through October 31. Please be sure NOT to send in any coats that are tat-

tered, torn, or in poor condition, so as to preserve the dignity of those in need. Any and all donations will be HIGHLY

APPRECIATED by those in need of a little warmth this winter and remember……………“Let the man with two coats give to

him who has none.” Luke 3:11
