During this year of Mercy we are invited to participate in a “gentle revolution” through our tender and meaningful actions founded on our
relationship with a forgiving God. One of the articles I read had 56 ways we can make our actions more merciful, so each week I thought I
would share one with you: Mercy Action # 34
Take time to reflect on the power of the Holy Spirit.
12TH
SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
19TH
JUNE, 2016
Introduction
My friends, today we ponder Jesus’ critical
question: “Who do you say that I am?” He wasn’t
asking the disciples this question for himself. He
already knew the answer. He was asking them if
they knew what they were in for. We are wise not
to attach ourselves to those we don’t really know,
especially if they’re asking us to come along with
them. Our eyes need to be wide open. Are we
cruising on automatic, or do we know who this
Jesus really is and what he’s asking of us?
First Reading Zechariah 12:10-11; 13:1
God has mercy on Israel, as they suffer for their sins.
Responsorial Psalm
My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.
Second Reading Galatians 3:26-29
There is one common identity among all who are baptised in Christ.
ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA!
My sheep listen to my voice, says the Lord; I know them, and they follow me
ALLELUIA!
Gospel
Luke 9:18-24 Followers of Jesus must be willing to take
up their cross.
Prayers of the Faithful For the church: that we may clearly
know what we are called to as followers of Christ … we pray,
For all Christians, Roman Catholic,
Protestant and Orthodox: that we may come to a common understanding of who Jesus is and what he teaches …
we pray,
For peace in the world, especially in countries that are warring because of
religious differences … we pray,
For those who struggle with their own identity or do not feel a sense of
belonging … we pray,
For all fathers and stepfathers; grandfathers and godfathers; for all men who serve and nurture young
people … for their strength and tenderness, courage and wisdom,
generosity and faithfulness … we pray,
For the most needy among us who are living on public assistance or falling
through the cracks … we pray,
For the needy, the sick and the dying in this community; and for those who
have died......... … we pray,
As we approach the end of the financial year, we ask you to please consider your level of
planned giving contribution to the Parish. If you wish to join the Planned Giving Programme,
please provide your details to Mary Collins on 46712288 or email them to
[email protected] Envelopes are now available on the entrance table.
