President’s Message continued… relate to each other; and taking them to a San Francisco Giants game to help them integrate into the culture in a safe way. They were able to reach over the dugout and get autographs from Matt Cain and Brandon Crawford. (photos on page 7) We had the baseballs donated to us by Angie Kavert and her youth group at St. Matthew's Church. We even had extras balls we got signed to use in our silent auction at our fundraiser! We are looking forward to taking a group from Community Violence Solutions to the Smuin Ballet in November and hosting our 7th Annual Pilates for a Purpose at Sports Basement in Berkeley and Walnut Creek on Dec. 10th. Thank you to Karen Britz and the Mission Department at Hillside Covenant Church for including us in their Freedom Fair to sell the blue jean bags that Peggy Marani, (and a group of several women) made to help us raise funds. We have shared with you that we use used blue jeans in our projects to represent that everyone can be made new.

Our hearts are full as you have given us so much support and you have networked for us in so many ways. We are grateful to so many businesses in Contra Costa County that care about encouraging a person's creativity to bring restoration and empowerment. Thank you to all of you for holding us and hugging us with your arms of care! With Care,

A special thanks to all of the “Worker Bees” who helped put Fountains of Hope together. We couldn’t have done it without your help and support.

A for Art

One of the special events in September was being in attendance for one of the girls' birthdays who is aging out of a program. We celebrated her with her favorite art project, using her favorite patterns, fabrics and colors. We gave her hand made cards, an exercise mat and a miniature easel and canvas to help her remember her creativity and to keep using her imagination in healing.

We also had the girls make and write in journals to help them identify positive attributes and dreams they have… Check out our StrengthsFinder Mandalas and our dream catchers.

At our ARM of Care Fountains of Hope Fundraiser we all got to participate in an art project. Heidi Holm brought denim hearts for everyone to decorate and write an encouraging note to the girls we work with. Thanks so much, Heidi.

"The girls enjoyed a Saturday afternoon of painting and decorating pumpkins- they expressed being down and bored before we started, but this activity lifted them up again."

Using art with girls and young women who

have had their lives affected by the trauma of being commercially sexually trafficked is a powerful tool to restore and empower them. Activating their creativity and curiosity, refocusing their attention and giving them a chance to play and have fun...It helps them feel more alive and involved in their own recovery.
