    Common Core Standards:

Academic Content Standards describe the knowledge and skills that students shouldattain - often called the "what" of "what students should know and be able to do." They

indicate the ways of thinking, working, communicating, reasoning and investigating, and important and enduring ideas, concepts, issues, dilemmas and knowledge essentiato the discipline.

    HSA-

    SSE.A.1

Interpret expressions that represent a quantity in terms of its context.

    a. Interpret parts of an expression, such as terms, factors, and coefficients.

    b. Interpret complicated expressions by viewing one or more of their parts as a single

entity. For example, interpret P(1+r)n as the product of P and a factor not depending

    on P.

    HSA-

    SSE.A.2

se the structure of an expression to identify ways to rewrite it. For example, see x 4 – y 4 as

    (x 2 )2 – (y 2 )2 , thus recogniing it as a difference of s!uares that can "e factored as (x 2 – y 2 )

    (x 2 + y 2 ).

Write expressions in equivalent forms to solve problems

    HSA-

    SSE.B.3

Choose and produce an equivalent form of an expression to reveal and explain properties of the

    quantity represented by the expression.

    a. Factor a quadratic expression to reveal the zeros of the function it defines.

     b. Complete the square in a quadratic expression to reveal the maximum or minimum value o

    the function it defines.

    c. Use the properties of exponents to transform expressions for exponential functions. For

example the expression 1.15t  can be rewritten as (1.151/12 )12t  ≈ 1.01212t  to reveal the

approximate equivalent monthly interest rate i the annual rate is 15!.

    SSE.B.4

Derive the formula for the sum of a finite geometric series (when the common ratio is not !" and

use the formula to solve problems. For example" calculate mort#a#e payments.

     Lesson Summary:

#his lesson is designed to allow students to gain $nowledge in algebraic mathematics. %ach students will be

have his&her own personal computer" where they will move at their own pace learning different mathematical

problems and equations. #his is a strict math technology class. '" the instructor will be present in the class for

the whole period to help" but the computer will also have a help button where the problem will be bro$en dowand better explained with more examples.

     Estimated Duration:

#his lesson will ta$e about hour ) minutes. ' will be dividing the lesson into * days" with each class period

lasting" each class period lasting ) mins.

minutes- ' will explain to the students how the class wor$s" what,s expected out of them" and the basics on

how to use the computer. #he students will ta$e a brief tutorial on how to maneuver throughout the computer

for the remainder of the course" and then ta$e a brief quiz pertaining to the tutorial.

) minutes- ' will explain to the students that although this is a computer course and you,re allowed to move a

    Pre-Assessment:

/ pre0assessment quiz will be used determined where the student is academically.

    Scoring Guidelines:

#he scoring guideline for the pre0assessment will be based upon the number of correct answers the

student,s get. #here will be ) questions and the test will be worth ) points. 't,s a basic assessmentthat will test here the student is. 'f a student is struggling this test will determine where a student needsmore help.

'f a student needs help this test will determine that" and that child will get that extra help.
