INTRODUCTION The book presents some views and images found on the olive wood
which have been displayed in Italy and have gained right of exhibit in the
National Museum of Rome “Il Vittoriano” as works of art. These findings
are unique in themselves. One can find others, as well, maybe even more
beautiful, but not exactly like these ones. In these images, one finds the
explanation for the probability that the olive tree captures images in the
presence of strong light. We realize when such a piece is a work of art,
referring to the explanations of one of the best known philosophers and
scholars of our time, Umberto Eco, and the observations of Picasso who
explains the values of the findings.
They speak about the feeling one has when these findings occur and
about their authorship when they are found by man in nature. The book
also speaks about the stress of the olive tree, i.e., the emotion which it
undergoes in the entirety of its long life, based on the explanations of the
physiologist Walter Larcher.
The book treats the physical features of the olive tree and its history
strongly marked by symbols as a tree which, from antiquity to the present,
continues to bear numerous myths.
At the end of the book there is a section of acknowledgements and
gratitude toward those who have helped clarify many unclear things about
this topic. The book is written in English, Albanian, and a few copies in
Italian (as a token of respect for those who have first acknowledged the
value of these findings).

HYRJE

INTRODUZIONE Il libro presenta alcune figure scoperte all’interno di tronchi d’ulivo.
numerosi interrogative.

WITH THE EMOTIONS OF
MOTHER NATURE
The olive tree is very special
It the richest tree in symbols in the religious world, classical or
modern.
Much of nature and little of me.
Nature is the result of the formation carried out by a prefect creator.
Like other living creatures, the tree also has the emotions of its life.
Umberto Eco talks about the works of art in general and in particular
on the findings of views and images on cut wood.
Picasso explains the values of the findings very clearly (what it
means to fins something).
The physiologist Walter Larcher provides scientific explanations
about the stress of the tree. In trees like the walnut tree, olive tree, etc.,
after the tree has been cut down views and images have been identified
which make us think that the tree photographs objects around it when
there is strong light as in the case of a lightning.
The first findings in the olive wood have started with what I have
called the Bird. At the moment of this finding, I was reminded of the talks
with the carpenters when I first started work and, at the same time, I was
reminded of the writings of Ismail Kadare in his short stories and
novelettes The Emblem of the Past, in which he writes about the images
that appear after the tree has been cut, especially in the walnut wood
and olive wood and about the capacity that these long-living trees have
11
to photograph things and objects.
Countries change, rulers come and go, government are changed,
children are born, those who enjoyed life pass away, people rejoice or wail,
people build and demolish, the long-living olive tree is there to see people
come and go and accompany everything that happens in this world.
This image made a great impression on me and with great care I
was able to identify its associates in that piece of wood where you could
easily notice the same prints with the only changes resulting from the
dynamic of the growth of the wood. After this discovery every instance of
cutting a piece of wood was marked by absolute care.
Umberto Eco’s article “Di foto fatte sui i muri” in “II Verri”, Milano
1961, nr 4, is very clarifying and instructive. It talks about the possibility
of finding works of art and the possible explanations when these findings
are truly works of art:
“The issue of a casual work of art, if we look closely, coincides with
the aesthetic value of a found object. If someone, walking in the forest,
finds a tree root that resembles a cow and takes it and shows it to his
friends, this cow, thus, is a work of art, isn’t it?”
In Picasso’s article we see the implications of what it means to search
and what it means to find. They are informative and have thus explained
for me every uncertainty about these findings and I feel relaxed even
when they will be evaluated and assessed by high levels of art, as is the
assessment for participation in the “Quadriennale D’Arte Conteporanea
Leonardo Da Vinci” at the Il Vittoriano National Museum in Rome.
To search and to find, this is the matter. Finding is very important.
Picasso compares finding to the arguments of love by which it is proved.
Findings come after a long and strenuous search, but often they come
by chance, too. The images of casual findings in the olive tree wood
become works of art when they are liked by the artistic environment.
Tastes for the enjoyment of a work of art vary as do people. With the
exception of those images in which you see the picture clearly or it
resembles a natural existing object, there are also cases of images that are
read and appreciated individually, according to personal tastes, individual
formation of the viewer, or the emotional state of the viewer at the moment
of observation. This has been proved by many friends of figurative arts
who have made various comments in regards to the same object.
12
In the olive tree wood, the lines are very special. The contrast of the
colors is such that they vary from light green to dark brown, and, in many
case, one is impressed by the harmony of the lines and the combination
of their continuation, especially the combination and contrast of colors.
It becomes the more impressive when one recalls that the whole view is
natural and only the finding is human.
When you notice that something is aesthetic, according to your taste,
you think you have found something and you keep it and maintain it. But
have you really found something valuable? You may want to please and
praise yourself for that, but that is nothing. The same has happened with
my findings, and it is something that goes on until now and I think that
this tendency will always accompany such findings. But the question is
how pleasing will they be for the people who will view them and keep
them in the environment in which they experience both the good and the
bad days? Will these findings penetrate their emotional lives?
Will these objects and images, by professional assessment and
evaluation, manage to compete in the field of art and be properly
displayed in official, familial, or public environments? These images are
from nature and there is nothing artificial in them and due to the warmth
of the wood and their unique view, they will fit perfectly, especially in
environments decorated in wood. And this is a demand of the modern
world nowadays.
Interpretation of form Umberto Eco: “What is the difference between the creation of a work
of art and the finding or discovery of something that might seem to be a
work of art? The answer can be provided after analyzing the interpretation
of a shape about which writes Luiggi Paryson: “Understanding a form or
a shape means interpreting it by enjoying the pleasant beauty, and very
often, due to the natural originality, it arouses one’s curiosity to unknown
degrees. By looking at them, I often wonder: How is it possible to have
such order, harmony, contrast, and so on? The same thing happens with
my friends when they look at these objects and images. The response is
very interesting and I understand them when I compare my own response
13
to theirs. However, we not yet accustomed to reading them as we read
paintings or sculptures. People are used to reading and appreciating a
painting (a sculpture or any work of art) that is done by using brushes or
pencils, and at the corner they see the name of the author, many such
painting have been and will be famous over the centuries.
It will be very difficult for people to recognize and start appreciating
this kind of art in their daily lives, since, as far as I know, it is clearly
explained and acclaimed in Umberto Eco, Picasso, and others. And what
encourages me most is that fact that the findings will be displayed in Il
Vittoriano by the group lead by Lucia Bonnacinni and Cav. Gonscarlo
Alu, who with their experience and professionalism dare to approach the
public for the first time with these images which they have called works
of contemporary art, as they have coined them in the posters that they
have displayed as hosts. This gives me great joy.
The emotions of wood Much is written about the stresses of the tree in general by
physiologist Walter Larcher, at the University of Salzburg (Austria) in his
Physiological Plant Ecology: Ecophysiology and Stress Physiology of
Functional Groups, third edition, from chapter 5. This has to do with the
stresses that the tree experiences due to changes in temperature,
changes of light, and many other elements. It focuses especially on the
presence of very strong light such as the lightning.
Photographs Does a tree photograph? I have heard from carpenters, both old and
young, who have worked with the walnut tree wood, that the walnut tree
photographs. They claim that they have even noticed in the leaf of the
walnut tree the image of a man standing. Such is the legend of the wood
photographing objects around it at the presence of strong flashing light.
Kadare writes about this in his The Emblem of the Past (short
stories and novelettes), pp.261-265 and in his The Great Winter, in which
14
he describes the beauty of the tissues of the wood. Could there be a
connection between the stress of the olive tree due to strong light and
the probability of photographing objects around it at that moment? In my
talks to the professors of Biology, I have learned that the body of a tree
contains a special substance called cellulose. Based on this fact there is
the possibility of interaction of the light, especially when there is strong
flashing light as in the case of a lightening. It a known fact that the celluloid
of film rolls is extracted from wood due to these features. This is a
concern especially for plant physiologists and botanists to study. Walter
Larcher treats this extensively, relating to the general stress of the tree
during its life and especially in condition of strong light. The stress of the
tree comes from external and internal factors, depending on the
sensitivity of the wood toward stress.
External factors The intensity of the light. At different times of the day, due to the
position of the sun, the intensity of the light changes. The timeframe of
light varies according to seasons.
The distribution of the light spectrum. Various parts of the visible or
invisible spectrum work differently on the cellulose. The changes of
temperature within a day, in various seasons, or immediate and
unexpected changes.
Gravity This has to do with how vertical the tree is in relation to the land
surface and the impact on its life when it is crooked or tilted.
The imposed force of the wind related to the speed.
The presence of water.
The longevity of snow coverage.
The influences of chemical in space.
The kind of soil (rocky, sandy, or salty, etc).
15
Physical damage caused by factors which come as a result of
various interventions in the body of the tree.
At what moment of its life have these phenomena or external factors
affected it?
Was it at the initial stages, during its growth and maturity, or towards
it advanced aged.
Was it at the moments of vegetation, reproduction (blooming or
ripening).
The image of the bird
This is the first of my findings and, as such, will remain a symbol of
this work. This discovery has its fortuitous. But is it fortuitous for the
Mother Nature to create in a tree a real image like that of a bird? Many
windows are opened from which I can see many opportunities. I like to
believe that it is something. But what is it? It is very difficult to define it
as something special, but I don’t think the annual rings of the wood exist
without the association of emotions. We are all part of our nature here on
earth and in the universe at large.
Nature is so large. It is everything in our lives.
It is the author of everything.
What kind of an author is nature when man approaches it in many
different ways?
What does man do in the case of findings in wood, especially when
they are interesting and a demand of the artistic environment?
How will a work of art be accepted by people when they are used to
an author or an inscription?
In our case, the work of art is found in Mother Nature by man and
identified or defined by man.
Do all kinds of woods have such images, or maybe just some special
kinds of wood?
In special wood, where the stress is greater the degree of influence
is great so as to identify and mark the images in it. Immeasurable
amounts of wood have been cut over the centuries, and even prior or
after my findings. Thus, one can imagine that the artistic loss has been
immense.
16
Identification At the first moment, you notice it and you set it apart or you don’t:
that’s the value of it. Often you set apart things that may not seem to
have value, but there will always be an assessment that you don’t make,
but you only set it apart to show it to others.
The perfection of nature and the hand of man.
Chance?!
The chances of life …
The chances of art as in our specific case.
Discovering artistic values of things of nature as in the case of our
reference to the findings in cut wood.
The chance of finding images.
The chance of its own modernization.
The chances of constant searching and finding.
It is by chance that you find such things since you never know what the
wood ahs inside. You will have to cut it horizontally or vertically, you will find
things, or due to the cutting you may damage or lose the potential findings.
Can we rely on chance to find things time after time, maybe they will
never occur again.
I believe that there will always be such findings to be made.
When you have such a findings, which will become a work of art, if
you want to view it, to find what has impressed you most, to understand
something of this view, to notice what has made you think of it what has
caused in you a sense of appreciation of the shape or form that you see,
you have to accept it, to determine in yourself what it is and what
connects you to it (what you have in common).
After this, there is the need to explain what has happened to you in
relation to this object which is accepted by you. It is even possible for
this object or image to be very close to you and in certain instances to
become yours completely. It is like clothes that you like very much. You
wear them for a long time and they wear out, but since you them so
much, and you probably can’t find other favorite ones to replace them,
so you can’t throw them away.
17
The presence of the author In this case, the author is nature. Could nature be called an author
since according to our general concept of authorship, we see the author
as a human being? Here we have a combination; the hand of man by
finding or identifying and nature with its own stress and material
substance that it offers, the so-called photographing, according to the
legend, that the tree makes in the conditions previously explained.
The stress that the tree experiences in certain moments of its life is
not associated with anything static. Everything is dynamic for the tree
during it life and development and the only static moment is that of
cutting down the wood. That is where the dynamics ends; the dynamics
of the moments and emotions.
Nature, however, has created the whole of the tree, and, in our case, we
find one small part for interpretation in which we find one moment of the life of
the tree and, through it, a moment in the life around it. Thus, there is emotion.
But, what are we doing with these findings or with the chance of
these findings?
The aesthetic values of the images found.
To create a work of art, as we are used to looking at painters,
sculptors, and so on, findings in stone or wood may or may not be a work
of art according to Eco who explains that it all depends on the
interpretation of the forms and shapes found.
Understanding, enjoying, accepting, identifying, interpreting, and
individualizing all these feelings comprises the human element in this.
However, the work of art (when there are such values) is created by
nature and identified by man.
Joining the wood After the incomplete findings an idea is to combine wood according
to the symmetry of cutting and approximate joining to create similar
symmetries with symmetrical natural objects like faces of living creature
with two eyes, two ears, two hands, two feet, etc.
18
The philosophical reason for such symmetrical creations of nature was
the core of my discussion with my friends at the university who explained
scientifically why there is such symmetry in natural living organisms. Living
creatures of nature have pairs of senses and not more than a pair.
After this view or look, I started joining similar designs (when the
cuts are successive) with opposite symmetrical directions, something
that even the carpenters did when they made furniture out of walnut tree
wood. I have been told that there are other kinds of wood of a very long
life like the chestnut tree whose physical features I don’t know well.
Remarks on the olive tree wood The olive is mainly cultivated on the coasts of the Mediterranean
Sea, South America, and North America, especially in California. Yet, in
the recent times, there have been other countries and regions trying to
cultivate it, but its growth and development will be delayed because of
the reasons provided above.
The ancient Greeks believed that their gods were born under the
olive leaves. Even nowadays, the olive oil is used in religious rituals and
ceremonials. The Greeks say “we eat together bread and olives” meaning
that they have good relationships. The olive is frequently mentioned in
the Bible and in the Koran.
The olive tree is a kind of wood that grows very slowly and with great
care and efforts and lives a very long life, up to 2500 years. This is
determined by the annual circles in the olive tree wood which are almost
impossible to be counted. This provides a very long presence in the living
environment.
The events marked in the wood match the long life of the wood.
This kind of wood is very dense in its composition. It is very strong
but easy to work both in the direction of the lien and against the main
lines of the design.
The olive tree is a fruit-giving tree from which they extract oil for daily
consumption, but it also has curative values. As we all know, the fruit of
the olive is used at meals. Olive oil is also used during religious rituals
and ceremonials.
19
Being a tree that produces useful fruit, the olive tree has thus
secured its maximum human care and attention both in regards to its
physical needs and to the creation of myths about it.
In the Olympic Games in ancient Greece and in 2004, every winner
received a crown made of olive branches. This was the purpose of the
whole idea of Olympic Games. It is a symbol of peace.
There are many explanations about the meaning of the olive tree in
antiquity. It was to make peace in times of harvest and there was an
agreement that when an olive branch was lifted high, there would be no
war so long.
The olive tree is a beautiful tree with ever green leaves which
beautify the blessed are where there are olive trees. In all the areas
where it grows like the Mediterranean and Latin America, especially
Chile and Peru, people have always created symbols, mythology, and
riches by means of the thoughts about the olive tree.
Among its symbols and myths I will mentions those that I have
managed to collect:
It is part of the religious mythology.
This is related to the legend of the dove which visited Noah’s ark on
the waters of the oceans carrying an olive tree branch on it beak. (Genesis
8 & 11). This happened after the flood had ended and the waters were
drawing back and the branch was from the tree which appear after that,
and it was the olive tree
At the contest between Poseidon, the god of the seas, and Athens,
the goddess of wisdom, when the arrow set (Acropoli di Atena) an olive
tree sprang and it was named Atene (Mitologjia Pierre Grimal, Le
Garzanti ‘I miti Greco-romani raccontatida’ Dei e voi termi legendary.
Genealogi, Fonti letterarie).
It is a symbol of purity, optimism, victory, construction, and wisdom.
Its oil is used in religious rituals.
The ancient Greeks believed that the gods were born under olive
tree leaves.
They say that some of the trees in Italy are since roman times. In
Crete (Greece) there are olive trees as old as 2000 years. In Albania,
they are around 1500 years old, whereas in Istria (Croatia) there olive
trees which exceed 1600 years.
20
It also interesting to consider the books that have been written and
published which explain the diseases and the protection from these
diseases. They write about its cultivation, distribution, and longevity in
our country, as a Mediterranean country.
Acknowledgments Special thanks go to Professor Umberto Eco for the assistance to
understand the findings better. Based on what he writes about the work
of art I have been able to appreciate these works more accurately.
By means of this article I have not only been guided as by a compass,
but I have also explained these things to people who have not known
this field.
Special thanks are due to the group of Prof. Cav Goncarlo Alu and

ME EMOCIONET
fatte sui muri” te “Il Verri”, Milano 1961, nr.4.
në anglisht dhe publikuar te “The Arts”, New York, maj 1923.

ambjentet që do t’i ekspozojnë.

ndodhet i shkruar edhe emri i autorit, vendi i realizimit, teknika, viti i
punimit etj.
Salsburgut (Austri) “Physiological Plant Ecology” >Ecophysiology and
stressphysiologyof functional groups, third edition from chapter 5.
A fotografon pema?
A mund të
ndaj streseve.
Janë faktor të jashtëm:
Intensiteti i drites.
intensiteti i dritës ndryshon.
Forca e imponuar e erës e lidhur me shpejtësinë.
Prezenca e ujit.
ndërhyrjet e ndryshme tek trupi i pemës.
pune.
27
Rastësi me modernizimin e vet.
çfarë fsheh druri, nëse duhet ta presësh horizontal apo vertikal, nëse do
të gjesh apo jo nga prerja, nëse do ta dëmtosh ose do e humbasësh
përgjithmonë.
A mund të mbështetemi te rastësia për të gjetur herë pas here
imazhe, apo s’do rastisim më?
Besoj se imazhe do të gjinden shumë e gjithmonë.
A quhet autor në rastin tonë natyra, nëse
Momenti fiks do
30
vështirsi numrohen te druri i ullirit.
tavolina.
Vaji i tij përdoret gjatë riteve fetare.
shume mite rreth tij.
vetë qëllimi i lojrave olimpike.
31
ulliri dhe i vunë emrin Atene (Pierre Grimal “Mitologjia” Le Garzantine “I miti
greco-romani” raccontatida Dei, eroi legendari.Genealogi, Fonti letterarie)

l’immagine da me chiamata “L’uccellino”.
33
Nell’ambiente dove vivono e lavorano, quanto
come opere d’arte.
Ecology” Ecophysiology and stressphysiologyof functional groups, third
edition from chapter 5.
luce forte come i lampi.
L’albero fotografa?
presenta all’uomo con queste forme?
come nelle nostre scoperte.
d’arte. Secondo Umberto Eco tutto dipende dall’interpretazione che
diamo all’oggetto stesso.
Capire, gustare, accettare, identificare, interpretare, individuare,
causa dell’alluvione (Bibbia. Genesi 8:11)
leggendari. Genealogie. Fonti letterarie)
(zoologia), Prof. Dr. Fatbardh Sokolin (botanica), Prof. Anila Mesin
(fisiologia), Prof. Ditika Dani (genetica), Prof. Aurora Dibrën (problemi di
cellullosa negli alberi).
