God the Builder

God is the creator of the heaven and the earth

Day 1 – Genesis 1:1-2:4

God creates everything and is still creating!

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 (NIV)

Craft tie-in: The mobile reminds us of what God created as He formed the world.

Creation Mobile – materials per person

3”x18” strip of blue construction paper

Creation days picture sheets with two verses – 2 sheets

Lengths of yarn - 4 11” lengths for creation days

1 16” length for hanging mobile

Additional supplies

Scissors

Colored pencils, markers, or crayons

Hole punch

Glue sticks or stapler

Optional – Paper clip to make a hanging hook

Advanced preparation

Cut 3”x18” blue construction paper strips.

Mark hole punch points: across the top of the blue strip at 6 7/8” and 15 3/8”

across the bottom at 4 ¾”, 9”, 13 ¼”, and 17 ½”.

Mark the glue area ½” from the left edge of the blue strip.

Duplicate the two picture sheets for each person.

Cut the lengths of yarn.

Steps for assembly

Picture sheets - Cut on the solid lines, fold the picture pairs on the broken lines,

and punch holes in the top of each pair. The folded pair may be glued together.

Punch the holes on the blue strip.

Glue or staple the creation verses on the blue strip by centering one above the first

hole punch and the other above the third hole punch on the bottom edge.

Tie the picture pairs to the bottom edge of the blue strip varying the lengths of the

yarn.

Staple or put glue on the left edge of the blue strip and glue the left edge to the

right end to form a circle.

Tie the 16” piece of yarn to the two top holes of the blue strip. Unbend the paper

clip to use as a hanging hook if desired.

Color the creation days pictures.

The potter shapes the clay

Day 2 – Jeremiah 18:1-6

God shapes our lives according to God’s purpose.

Craft tie-in: The pottery jar reminds us that God

shaped us and continues to shape us throughout

our lives.

Pottery Jar – materials per person

1 pottery jar pattern

1 Bible verse in Spanish and English

Additional supplies

Scissors

Acrylic paints, 5-6 colors

Pencils with new erasers, 1 per paint color per area

Plastic lids to serve as paint trays, 1 per every 3 persons

Glue sticks

Advanced preparation

Trace the pottery jar shape on light brown or terra cotta-colored 9”x12” construction

paper.

Draw the accent lines on the pottery jar.

Duplicate the Bible verses. There are eight per sheet.

Before the activity begins - Place on each plastic lid a quarter-sized amount of paint for

each color that is being used. Put one pencil out for each color on the lid. Prepare as

many lids as needed for the size of your group.

Steps for assembly

Cut out the pottery jar shape.

Glue the Bible verse on the back of the pottery jar.

Paint a design in the border area near the center of the jar by dipping an eraser into its

paint and then pressing the eraser on the jar to make a circle-shaped print. Repeat until

the design is complete. Be sure to switch erasers when a different color is selected.

God the Builder

The Spirit of God breathes life back into the dry bones of the

Jewish people of Israel.

Day 3 – Ezekiel 37:1-14

God creates hope and new life in the midst of hopelessness and death.

“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not

for harm, to give you a future with hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NRSV)

Craft tie-in: The whirligig serves as a reminder of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives.

The bookmark serves as a reminder of the Bible verse for the lesson.

Whirligig/Bookmark – materials per person

1 spiral design on 6” white paper plate or cardstock

1 paper clip

1 length of yarn as desired

1 bookmark pattern

1 12” length of bright ribbon

Additional supplies

Scissors

Markers, crayons, or colored pencils – bright colors

Hole punch

Stickers, 2 or more per bookmark

Advanced preparation

Trace spiral design on 6” diameter white paper plates or duplicate on white cardstock.

Prepare copies of bookmark separately if using paper plates for the whirligig.

Cut lengths of yarn.

Cut lengths of ribbon 12” long.

Steps for assembly

Color a bright design on both sides of the 6” diameter circle.

Cut the bookmark to separate it from the spiral design area of the cardstock.

Cut out the circle if using a spiral design printed on white cardstock.

Cut the spiral shape by starting where the line meets the outer edge of the circle and

continue cutting in to the center.

Punch a hole at the dot in the center of the circle/plate.

Insert the paper clip through the hole at the center of the spiral.

Attach the yarn to the paper clip for hanging.

Punch a hole where indicated on the bookmark.

Tie the ribbon through the hole.

Place stickers at the top and bottom of the bookmark.

Craft tie-in: The paper-fold church symbolizes where we place our faith.

1 4 ½”x14” paper-fold church pattern

1 roof and cross pattern

Additional supplies

Scissors

Colored pencils or markers

Glue or tape

Scrap paper

Advanced preparation

Duplicate the paper-fold church patterns (8 ½ x 14”). There are two

per sheet.

Duplicate the roof and cross patterns (8 ½ x 11”). There are four per

sheet.

Steps for assembly

Cut on the solid lines of the paper-fold church pattern to create doors

that open.

Cut on the solid lines of the roof and cross strip to separate the roof

from the cross.

Fold the paper-fold church to see how it will look when it is assembled. Place it flat

again.

Decorate the paper-fold church with colored pencils or markers.

Re-fold the church building and glue or tape the shortest wall section to the back wall of

the church building. You might like to fold the shortest wall section in half so it

doesn’t cover any of the cornerstone area.

Fold the roof strip in half. Put glue on the outside ends as marked, and attach the roof to

the inside of the side walls of the church building.

Decorate the cross as desired. Put glue on the bottom front of the cross, and attach it

to the inside of the front wall of the church building.

Design a sign for the church using the scrap paper, and attach it above the church doors.

We are the Body of Christ

Day 5 – 1 Corinthians 12:12-27

God creates the Body of Christ, the church.

“We, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of

another.” Romans 12:5 (NRSV)

Craft tie-in: The paper doll ring represents the people of the church joined together and

living their lives in a way to honor God by being of service to others.

Paper Doll Ring – materials per person

1 12”x18” piece of construction paper

1 pattern sheet with paper doll pattern,

Bible verse,

and photo of partner church

Additional supplies

Scissors

Colored pencils or fine line markers

Glue sticks / stapler

Advanced preparation

Duplicate the paper doll pattern sheet.

Steps for assembly

Fold construction paper in half with short

sides together.

Cut out the Bible verse, photo, and paper

doll circle.

Fold the paper doll circle in this order: broken line (folds the circle in half)

dotted line (folds the circle in quarters)

plus line (folds the circle in eighths).

Cut on the solid lines to cut out the paper doll circle.

Write on the dolls’ arms to show ways to serve God.

Glue or staple the photo in the center of the front of the folded construction paper.

Glue or staple the paper doll ring on top of the photo.

Glue or staple Bible verse on the back part of the folded construction paper sheet.

Display the free-standing paper doll craft.
