• An apprentice must: Learn in the workplace through working alongside experienced staff Learn skills relevant to their chosen industry Achieve a formal qualification during their time in the workplace,

spending as much as a day a week trained by their Registered Training Provider

• Apprenticeships are targeted at those leaving school who do not want to go to university, but would prefer to enter the workforce

• The Apprentice National Minimum Wage is £3.30 per hour until they either complete their apprenticeship, or they reach the age of 19

What is an apprenticeship?

Page 5: WhiteHat XML Service Overview

• The government’s apprenticeship levy means that all employers with an annual payroll will need to spend 0.5% of this amount on apprentices, or otherwise forfeit it to the government as a tax This will likely be expanded over the next 24 months to also include

smaller businesses, and the levy percentage may also be increased• An apprenticeship programme allows you to identify and attract the best

talent aged 16-18 and bring them into your business• You can use the programme to address real skills shortages in your

business and plan for the future• The average apprenticeship improves productivity by £214/week =

£11,128/year

Why should we hire apprentices?

Page 6: WhiteHat XML Service Overview

• We will provide a full consultation on how the Apprenticeship Levy will impact your business and which areas of your operation you should immediately introduce to apprenticeships.

• We will break down for you how much funding can be drawn down against your Levy for specific qualifications, and how to maximise the funding through a combination of both entry level and higher level qualifications.

• We will help to design qualifications to suit your skills shortages and work with awarding bodies and the Skills Funding Agency to have them recognised against the new apprenticeship standards.

• We recruit and train any new apprentices required in your business and also place existing staff members on an apprenticeship where appropriate.
